Good jobs?!?!

I have lots of credits, mostly in Sociology. The Lord saw fit to restore my mind at the age of 28. I have minimal work history and currently live off disability (allegedly Bipolar) and my parents also provide a very modest amount of money.

I would like to get training in something and move away from here. I've seen my reputation in this community improve. That's great, but that's no reason to stay in my hometown area forever.

I would like to keep my education to a minimum for now. So, basically, if you can think of a field that requires a 2 or 4 year degree, that'd be helpful. I cannot even wrap my mind around more than that.

That's really vague lol... I can't think of a field that doesn't have career options for people with a 2 or 4 year degree in some way :)

What do you see yourself doing? You mention sociology, but that's an extremely wide field with many subdisciplines. Are you focusing on group theory? Demographics and population statistics? Cultural analysis? Pragmatic semiotics?

The best suggestion by far is to go to the guidance counselor at your school (or any school that you might be interested in attending). They can look specifically at what you have so far, and discuss with you what path you might want to take and how to get there. They also tend to be knowledgeable about industry expectations etc.

Good luck!

Also, as a preliminary measure, you might want to consider some home based work, e.g, computer inputting, etc., as a part-time, independent contractor of some sort.

Rather than expecting an all or nothing, complete career away from your current home base, with all its expenses.

That post *was* awfully vague. Here's my situation: crazy since high school, rarely employed, nervous breakdowns, now I've been healed. My doc OK'd a dosage reduction in my Abilify and then my therapist said it looked like I might eventually be able to taper off.

Now, I'm finally "with it" enough to realize that being home all day isn't all its cut out to be. I freak out around too many people, I'm not good at office politics (I have much better social skills, but I'm still "off kilter"), and I would very much like to make use of the college credits I have. This is a tall order, especially with almost no job experience.

What to do?!?! I'm with vocational rehab, but that's moving very slowly, and probably only going towards a very part-time job. Plus, the idea is that you go to a shrink AND to vocational rehab, and I'm done with my shrink now that I'm on as-needed medication and no talk therapy.

I feel so entitled, like "I recovered from being crazy...where's my job?!?!" And I know a very part-time job is better than no job at all. I also feel that, since God has chosen to restore my intellectual capacity and give me social skills and hard-earned wisdom, I should somehow do something that will benefit the community and allow me to pay my own bills w/o relying on parents and/or disability. Also, all those college credits my parents paid for when I was a teenager...eats me up inside, really. I'd like to make good use of them.

Well, some good aims there; progress is often made incrementally, rather than on an all or nothing basis with big schemes. So you might want to consider a variety of options, and do what might be available, while bearing in mind other, longer term possibilities.
