Good Software

Well, I always like to share my software downloads and purchases with other computer users in an attempt to help them. Figured we could share some of our favorite software buys or purchases and such. Also, anything that is generally useful to have around.

First. Bible Refalizer. This is a Firefox add-on and it's AWESOME! Every time an article or a post references a piece of scripture this little add-on will add a link to Biblegate (or another favorite scripture service). http://www.proginosko.com/refalizer.html

K9. This is a parental control/content filter for the internet. 100% free of charge. It's really effective at doing what it is meant to do, which is block any number of websites. Guys, you will find it useful for obvious reasons and I am sure the ladies will also. Plus it looks like it is really parent friendly. It is based on the internet, so I think you can view what your kid is looking at from the internet. It tracks every website they go to and it also blocks a huge list of things, about 20 or so blocking options, including porn, occult, LGBT, sex edu., ect.. http://www1.k9webprotection.com/

e-Sword. If you don't have this little Bible study program... GET IT NOW! It's so awesome. I have most of the add-ons that come with it, but even the free things are really handy to use. I cannot recall the website now, but there is a site to download the Bible translations for free. Yes, it is legal if you own the Bible translation in a hard-copy and the site goes over this. PM me if you want me to find it, I just don't feel right putting the link up here, for obvious reasons. http://www.e-sword.net/

More later. :thumb

I also have been using e-sword for years and recommend it highly; I'm sure many others here use it also. I began a search for a computer bible with the idea of purchasing, but have found this program more than adequate for my needs. In addition to the tons of free translations and helps from the official site, I also recently found an e-sword user site (just google) that offers tons more.

As far as the free English translations go, most are a little dated - some more than a little - but one truly new is ESV; thank you, Crossway (and I have bought several of their print bibles.) For reasonable fees other new ones are there for the downloading, as well. I think I have thirty or forty; all free.

Also mentionable among the free aids is the International Standard Bible Encyclopedia, which I already owned in the four-volume print version. Useful. Several free commentaries are available as well, such as Henry's (both the concise and the unabridged), Poole's, Clarke's, Jamison-Fausset-Brown's, and Keil & Delitzsch to name but a few. Dated, yes, but still relevant and instructive.

Other and more current helps are available for reasonable fees. The official site lists the for-a-fee downloads of each category first and they are clearly marked with a dollar sign. Scroll down for the list of free stuff that is a much longer list. At the time I looked into it a few years ago, many of the same translations and aids came with the basic version of whichever purchasable software I examined, but you had to spend more for more-current items; since the cost of these varied fairly widely, e-sword was a clear winner. Still is; though Rick Meyers, the guy who developed and updates it deserves a small donation if you download it. Not mandatory though; thank you Rick. (Don't know him, just really appreciate his efforts, and generosity. His motto - freely you received, freely give).

E-sword rocks!! It was the first Bible software I ever found and have been using it ever since.
