I don't believe anyone should do this who is not being moved to do so out of the sincerity of their heart. But in a mechanized meeting you are required to do it whether it's sincere or not. Reminds me of those who honored Jesus with their lips but their hearts were far away from him.
People should be made aware of this so they don't take false comfort in cold, dead procedures while their hearts remain far from God. That's what is so terribly wrong with cold, dead 'religion' (again, in the negative connotation of the word).
In the kind of church Paul describes, people get built up through interactive fellowship with one another, and praise and worship and prayer then become sincere and full of the Spirit, thereby being effective and edifying. In other words, the Spirit inhabits it.
