Consensus is not evidence or proof though evidences or proofs may inspire that consensus, and while that in some cases may be correct, sheer numbers of people who agree with a perspective does not make it true!

Rather,, it that a true conclusion makes for consensus. And evidence is the way we know it is true. Which is why almost all biologists accept common descent. Even many IDers now accept the fact, e.g. Michael Denton and Michael Behe, both fellows of the Discovery Institute.

Like, say a governor who orders prisoners executed, including at least one person later found to be innocent? Or a veteran who has killed numerous enemy soldiers? Or a police officer who has shot and killed several criminals?

It seems that killing isn't murder, at least in our society. Sometimes the law is wrong. Doesn't mean you get to kill those who follow it.
