I am just now starting to see those tiny sugar ants roaming around in my kitchen.Last year I had a bad case in my bathroom and got rid of them. I did not have any in my kitchen.I have a nice little recipe to get rid of ants and I will share if would like it.I have a nice little snack waiting for them right now on my kitchen counter :mischief

Yipes! I'm still waiting for winter to end, haven't seen any critters yet. They really can be hard to get rid of, whats your trick?

We are in the middle of March and the weather is just starting to warm up a bit.

Yes, what is your trick to File 13 the ants?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Recipe for ant repellent:
1/4 cup sugar
3/4 tablespoons Borax
3/4 cup warm water
3 cotton balls
A plastic lid or any kind of lid about 3 inches in diameter.
Mix sugar and Borax together in a jar and add warm water.Shake it well to get it well dissolved.
Put three cotton balls in the center of the lid and pour some of the mixure over the cotton balls.
I sometimes drizzle a little honey or maple syrup over the top to make it more enticing.
It may take a couple of days for the ants to come around. If you have alot of ants in the kitchen they will start coming and there will be alot of them.If you do not get any after a couple of days they might be grease ants....see below.
I change the cotton balls and put fresh solution on them about every 4 days.
Sometimes what looks like sugar ants are grease ants. They like protein.I then put peanut butter on the top of the cotton balls and some of the solution.
This solution will also work on silver fish.

brake clean and also my wife uses some type of killer. red neck ant killing take on pile of ants and put them in another. watch them kill each other.

Thanks for sharing, Kathi !

For those who have cats or dogs who believe they can eat anything they want without suffering the consequences, here's something else to try: corn meal.

The ants will carry it back to their nests. Corn meal swells when moisture comes in contact with it. The ants consume small bites, but several, the moisture in their systems causes the corn meal to swell, and soon enough, no more ants.

I forgot to put that in.Keep this solution out of the reach of children and animals. It has a pretty low toxic rate but it is not consumable.
You can also use Cayene pepper at the opening of where they come in.You really have to know where they are coming and going from. The Cayene pepper burns off their legs.I find the Boric Acid a little more humane.

I have a cat who believes she's immune to everything and anything. I could see her thinking the cotton ball would make for a great play toy as well.

Oh no,keep that out of her reach and I know that is a challenge of a cat :)

I will, to be sure! She's a character; there are times when I'm surprised she's lived to see 14 years, considering the various hazardous items she's consumed & lived to tell the tale.

When we had our Mickey(a she) I could keep nothing out of her reach. She was a character. She could really climb a tree fast and invade the birds nest and bring home live baby birds to me.....yuk :shock

Poor baby birds! Your kitty was merely bringing you 'presents' ... and she was trying to keep you safe from a possible attack from "Birds" (your kitty must have seen the Alfred Hitchcock movie from 1963!)

She never killed anything. If she brought a mouse it was alive. Then when I held her to let the innocent party go she would look at me like she was really ticked. :lol

I can just imagine the expression on your cat's face on those occasions!

When I get ants...
1) Clean up whatever they're eating
2) vacuum them up while they are walking along their line
3) Spray Clorox bleach bathroom cleaner along the line and on any stray ants walking around

I know that's terrible but i don't know how to get rid of them otherwise

I don't get them in my house as I use Ortho bug spray and spray it around the outside of the house. At camp I use it there also, but when I do see some ants I use Terro ant killer. You can buy it at any store, but I get it at Walmart where I live. Just put a couple drops on a piece of cardboard or something it won't bleed through and put it in the corner of your counter or under the sink where children and pets will not get to it. They will eat it and take it back to the nest and kill all those ants.

This morning the ants are running to the cotton balls and ant repellant I have put on the counter like a 75% sale at Walmart. They will then take it to their nest and they will die.Kind of like Genocide. :wink
