Greetings brothers and sisters

Thank you both for the warm welcome also :sohappy .

Folks here are so kind and friendly I've had to "pinch myself" a few times.
I hope none of you know how bad, how downright hateful, people who call themselves Christians on other forums can be. It's nothing short of "shocking" and heart breaking to experience.
I was beginning to wonder if that was the new "normal" in the online Christian culture.

Thank you all for proving to me it wasn't.
Each of you are a "Jewel" in Gods crown.

I was looking for a place where Godly love is real, and kindness was a chosen way of life.
What you have here is so rare, and so pure so far, I feel like I died and went to heaven - REALLY, I do!!
I am truly blessed by all of you, and will do my best to be just as loving and kind and supportive in return.

May Our dear Father in heaven bless you all richly in His greatest of love and mercy.
My name is OLIGOS

There's a BIG difference in claiming to be a Christian and actually being one.

Very nice to be here.
I like the statement of faith.
I am a very young and healthy 76 year old male who's been a Christ follower for 42 years.
I belong to several Christian forums that can be pretty devisive at times so I'm hoping for something better here.
I am a people person and love people and love to laugh and have fun, and I love my LORD with all my heart, soul, mind and strength.
Oh yeah...and I love the snow and love to play in it. I live in the Pacific Northwest.

Welcome to the forum Sir
Im only new here myself but from what ive seen it's a very chill place to be

There is something about the internet that seems to make people 20% less polite, 20% more judgmental and get 20% more offended...

It's not that bad here. Don't get me wrong there are theological disagreements and debates but they aren't the hostile engagements usually seen on some other forums

When I read your name, Oligos, my first thought was that it is Greek as many of their names end with an s. Im guessing that is your first name which is backed up by a longish surname that also ends with an s.

Greeks are usually either Catholics or Orthodox, right. Im Catholic, you?

I love the snow also but there isn't much here in the south east of Australia
Seasons are too short and hills are too small. Are you a skier?

I snowboard but if i had my chance again I would choose to learn to ski
It's easier to go faster and over choppy terrain but the best thing is being able to access places that a snowboarder has to walk to

Anyhow welcome and may the Lord be with you my friend

Thank you for the nice welcome :thumbsup

Christ the King from Australia.

I love Australia and Australians.
I watch the PGA tour and their are several Australians that play, and when they are interviewed, I love their accent, and their general demeaner is so great.

You are right about my name OLIGOS being Greek.
But it's not my given name, it's my taken name.
I have studied koine Greek, the spoken common language of Jesus day, and the language the bible was originally written in for some years now, and this is the name the Holy Spirit gave to me that represents my standing with Christ.

Am I Catholic? No. I am just a Christ follower with no affiliation to any doctrine other than Christ crucified and His truth, not any man made truths.

Do I snow ski? No, but I do love to do "doughnuts" in the snow in my favorite parking lot behind my favorite restaurant in my 4-wheel drive pickup truck, or get in a real good snowball fight.
Yeah I know I'm 76, but ya just can't take the kid out of someone who never got past being 20 years old, and turns 8 years old when theirs enough snow on the ground to play in.
Guess I'm a pretty playful 76 year old that really never learned how to grow up much, but ABSOLUTELY loves life.
I never learned how to get old.

Thanks again for the great welcome and adding some things about yourself.
God bless you and your walk in Christ.

I think the OT was first written in Hebrew and the NT was first written in Greek.
Is it much different to modern Greek?

You are the perfect person to ask questions about translated words and their meanings... Ok Im sorry but im going to have to acquire some knowledge from you already. Take the 2 following verses.

Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. Mark 6:3

While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.” Matthew 12:46-47

In attempting to defend the doctrine of perpetual virginity the Catholic church claims that the word cousin is the same as brother and sister therefore these are Jesus' cousins

Does their claim have any merit?

Hi Oligos...
2 pages of welcomes!
I think you take the record.

So what does Oligos mean?

Welcome to the forum...
I think you'll like it around here.

My friend, I know nothing about the Catholic church and it's beliefs, and biblical words can be twisted to mean anything people want them to I found out on another forum, where there was a constant battle between Catholics and non-Catholics about everything.
Actually most on that forum argued about almost everything, and there was very little "unity" about anything, so right now I'm a little gun shy about talking anything doctrinally, and anything Catholic is way out of my wheel-house...SORRY.

God bless you my friend as you continue your walk with Christ.

Oligos,,,
Please start posting...you can talk about anything and we remain calm here on this forum.

The only subject that is off limits is eternal salvation or OSAS....if you want to speak about that, please join the Theological Discussion Group which is moderated by JLB and which will require his OK. As long as the talking is scriptural and calm,,,it will be OK.

Im sorry. I came across as perhaps wanting to debate something and spooked you.

Not my intention amigo. I don't like theological debates and like to keep it simple in following the lead of Christ.

O Senhor esteja con vosco
May the Lord be with you

Thank you "wondering":thumbsup for the encouragement.
Much appreciated.

When I do start posting, what I share will reflect 42 years of reading, studying, and researching scripture, and especially the last 5 years of my 17 years of my retirement, have been incredibly intense, putting together a huge library of study tools, and creating a library of over 550, commentaries spending many thousands of hours studying the history of Christianity, the history of the bible, world history going back to creation, and studying koine Greek - the language Jesus spoke and the common language of the day over most of the world, and studying every biblical topic that the Holy Spirit brought to me to study.
I am not a scholar or know it all. I just wanted Gods truth for myself, and then for those God brought to me.
Romans 14:22 says, "The faith which you have, have as your own conviction before God,
happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves."

Many years ago when I first became a follower of Christ, things I heard in the church and things I saw done or sometimes left out, made me question whether I had really become a believer, and was I really in the right church. What was the right church?
I needed to know. My life depended on it.
So for the next 42 years, I have sought the answers, and God through the leading of the Holy Spirit, and much prayer for the truth, has blessed me to come to the conclusions I needed to feel secure in my standing before Christ each day, and when I stand before Him after my physical life ends.
1st Peter 4:18, Peter said, "If it is with difficulty that the righteous is saved, what will become of the Godless man and the sinner?" A dire warning to believers, along with many other warnings.

My faith has been adjusted several times over the last 42 years, as God has commanded it should, and my faith in many ways doesn't resemble much of what the Christian culture as a whole calls Christianity today, because of all the major discrepancies in all the mainline faiths beliefs and teachings, and even the smaller individual churches who's doctrines are not able to be saved by either.

There is only one way to salvation, not the many we have today, and it only comes from Gods word, and God says in Matthew 7:14, and Luke 13:23-23 that "FEW" who call themselves believers will enter His kingdom of heaver. Read Matthew 7:21 and the verses before and after - SCARY.

God bless you all.

What I have found is that as long as I believe pretty close to what others believe, I'm pretty much accepted, but if people find out what I truly believe and also do, that they have been taught against, I either get attacked or I'm totally ignored and shunned.

I think they feel threatened, or don't want to question their own faith as I questioned my own faith for many decades.

Questioning my own faith lead me to how I see God's truth and has given me great joy and peace and an incredibly wonderful faith.
