GTA 4

Grand theft auto 4 came out this week, and I was just wondering if anyone was playing it (other than me)? If so how do you feel about the content as a Christian? Just so you know I would never condemn anyone for playing it, I'm just wondering.

Did you copy that right off the back of the box? :-D Most of that I don't mind I do feel that it is a very well put together game, and is a lot of fun I just think they can do w/o the swearing and nudity.

Yes, I do own and have been playing this game, and I've played two of the three earlier GTAs to completion, and this one is the worst of all and it's as bad as they say - there's nothing Christian about it at all, but for me it is fun anyways.

It's degenerate and offensive, but it's just a game (for adults only) - I don't even want to describe the details, and it's graphic, NOT a Christian game at all.

The whole GTA series is terrible and morally dubious. When I briefly played GTA3 it turned my stomach after a while and I haven't played it since. Prostitutes, murder, drugs.... definitely not Christian. Not even close.

I have played them all i don't own them becuase of the content but i find jacking a car then destroying things is fun, if you want to view my opion on war and war games look at my last post in "Do you believe in "just war"" under debate.
If you are looking for a game where you can jack cars, tanks, helicopters, Etc but lacks the nudity,drugs, and sex. play mercanaries: playground of destruction or buy the new one i believe that they kept it with no "crap" aka: labled above. the only down side you flip your car and they may ocasionally say dam the lake
same great destruction for a lot better rating. :-D

I feel great! Gives me a rush! ;)

Joking. It's a game. It is made for adults. No different than an R rated movie. You could make an argument that GTA 4 plays the morality card a bit at the end with the main character Niko. It paints a not so rosie picture of what some of the consequences leading a life of crime can have.

I used to love playing this game. Recently though, the lord has given me convictions about this series, and I fully agree with him. This is one of the worst games I have ever seen. Objectionable content doesn't offend me unless it is portrayed as the main focus of anything and is making it seem cool. This game has nothing to benefit from, and portrays a very negative picture.

I recommend sticking to series, like Metal Gear that portrays violence and war in a very negative manner. Violence is frowned upon in the series, and the main characters sacrifice their lives for others to live. There are other great series out there too with touching love stories and shocking tragedies. I also recommend Little Big Planet! I think you get the point though. Get things that glorify what is right.

For me, I have two words: Stay Away! Not the Nirvana song, but this game isn't right! My take on this.

I think it just depends on an individuals beliefs; however, I know worse things happen in actual life, and it makes this game look like it does nothing wrong. Anyone can pick apart my response, but we all have clear minds, and can decipher what is right and wrong.

You say you're a christian, and you certainly do not support violence, pre-marital sex,drug use, yadda, yadda, york; yet you play GTAIV....hmmm...well I played the game. I enjoyed the freedom. I didn't do drugs, and I killed as little people as possible. I mostly stole cars, because I had to, and...well....swam. Oh yeah, I avoided the cops after i decided to kill innocents because swimming was boring..but I waited for the stars to go to 0 and input a cheat code bringing them down to 0! so it was like I never killed anyone However, the game promotes sin and I don't play it anymore :nod

Personally, I questioned the actions and life style choices of the character a great deal at the conclusion of the game. I won't spill the details since I do not want to spoil the game for anyone but what I can say is that Niko is a tortured soul at the game's conclusion.

I agree, since I have the game, although it is the most un-Christian game I have come accross it doesn't paint as positive image of sin as people make it out to be.

These days it's hard to name a game that doesn't have those, or even half of those but no haven't played it, no intention of it either played GTA SA and that was a terrible, I do not like that kind of language in my video games, don't care much for GTA 3 either now Vice City was a good one, great radio stations, little language, good game

Yes, Vice City was actually quite mild, but 4 is the worst one yet. You get that impression from the very start, literally.

I very much like this game, but for the violence. Better taking my aggression on video game car drivers than on actual drivers that cut me off or almost side swipe me on the freeway.

I strongly disagree. It's up to the way you've been brought up whether this influences you or not. It's meant to be fun, and you could even say it satisfies curiosity. I'd rather have the game out there so people can find out what it's like to rape and kill a hooker in a virtual environment, rather than someone going out and actually doing it.
And I dare someone to say that they've never thought about it. It's impossible nowadays with everything on TV, and I don't mean just fictional violence. Everyone has watched the news, or read in the papers about someone being murdered, and everyone has questioned the murderers ethics and have put themselves in the place of the murderer and imagined what it would be like. This then obviously fuels curiosity.

The only way to completely eradicate violence is for nothing to exist so moaning about a game isn't going to do much.

Frankly, I don't even play GTA4 the way it is meant to be played. I only play online, first of all. I never play with the cops on and rarely with pedestrians on. For me GTA4 is a driving game. It is also fun to get a bunch of people together and play cops and robbers or hide and seek. I still have never played the main story, others have played it on my account, but I have not really touched it (besides the cool sky crane in the expansion).

I have a question for the non-USA people with GTA4 (Basically Nick...). When you kill people it some times says "X Second Amendmented Y". I am curious if you also get this to pop up, since you don't have the second amendment...
