Considering Matthew 18,

18:10 "See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven."

Does this say that we have personal guardian angels who watch over each of us? In my childhood years, I tended to believe this, but I've gotten away from the belief of personal angels who are assigned to protect us individually. I do believe in the spiritual warfare that rages all around us; demons who are vying for our souls and angels to fight against their purpose. But I look at this as a collective effort of angels and demons.

But it doesn't say "our angels or the angels". It's referring to lost sheep and says their angels. :shrug

.
There are warrior angels and there are guardian angels. I believe that every believer has guardian angels ....

Psalm 91:11
For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.

Hebrews 1:14
Are they not all ministering spirits (angels) sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?

:angel3 :angel :angel2

Man, I love Hebrews 1; especially all the acknowledgment of Jesus' Divinity prior to verse 14! :yes (I don't want to veer the topic to that. just sayin'...)

These two verses seem more general to me, in that angels are in force to protect us. They don't seem to imply a single angel that is devoted to us personally. Matthew 18:10 seems to speak to a singular angel more than those, but they're good references to spiritual warfare.

seriously I think we under utilize the heavenly host because we are taught to doubt everything these days.
They are there for sure! In a way i kinda wish mine couldn't see sometimes. I'm going to start asking God for guidance as to how they might be helpful and if they can be used. I know the only warning with angels is we aren't to worship them. They must be ok to speak to because angel means messenger.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angel

I wonder if they become dis empowered by disbelief, and effective by belief.

Ya, there are angels who act as our guardians here on earth. I've seen mine now and then. Always walking around with that cross of his.

Anyways, I think the problem that can come from this is that we may worship these angels because we can see them, when we ought to worship the Lord even more, for it is from Him that they are sent to watch over us!

There's only One Judge. :thumbsup Interesting topic to me anyway. I have a hard time imagining 1 angel for every person in the world, but I realize whether I can imagine something is in no way an indicator of it's truthfulness. We need to seek scripture, and I don't believe it is conclusive.

I guess my biggest problem with the concept of a guardian angel is that implies to that God is not Autonomous and needs to have his angels assigned as "body guards". He is perfectly able to tend to His entire creation AND see to every one of the moments that each of us live. :twocents

Got this from: http://www.gotquestions.org/guardian-angels.html

"To return to Matthew 18:10, the word “their†is a collective pronoun in the Greek and refers to the fact that believers are served by angels in general. These angels are pictured as “always†watching the face of God so as to hear His command to them to help a believer when it is needed. The angels in this passage do not seem to be guarding a person so much as being attentive to the Father in heaven. The active duty or oversight seems, then, to come more from God than from the angels, which makes perfect sense because God alone is omniscient. He sees every believer at every moment, and He alone knows when one of us needs the intervention of an angel. Because they are continually seeing His face, the angels are at His disposal to help one of His “little ones.â€

It cannot be emphatically answered from Scripture whether or not each believer has a guardian angel assigned to him/her. But, as stated earlier, God does use angels in ministering to us. It is scriptural to say that He uses them as He uses us; that is, He in no way needs us or them to accomplish His purposes, but chooses to use us and them nevertheless (Job 4:18; 15:15). In the end, whether or not we have an angel assigned to protect us, we have an even greater assurance from God: if we are His children through faith in Christ, He works all things together for good (Romans 8:28-30), and Jesus Christ will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5-6). If we have an omniscient, omnipotent, all-loving God with us, does it really matter whether or not there is a finite guardian angel protecting us?"

I am a firm believer that all children have guardian angles. If I think of all the stupid, dangerous things I did as a child and I did not meet my Maker in the process… I should’ve died like 50 odd times when I was a child.

I could say the same thing about my reckless young adult years. But by the Grace of God, I could have, should have wrapped my car around a telephone pole more than once. I'm ashamed to say I should have lost my license and spent some time for driving way over the legal alcohol limit back in the day. :shame2

But IMO, this would be the Grace of God, not the guidance of a guardian angel. :twocents

:shame Yup, the amount of times I should have died driving a car is staggering...

Mike, I feel the way you do. Why does God need angels to protect us? He can do it Himself... I guess I answer this by looking to other situations.

Does God always talk to your personally? No, more often than not, He comes to you through others. He could tap right into your head and have a running conversation with you, but He opts to use others.

Besides, isn't an angel coming to help God's doing? He created angels, He tells them what to do. Like I said previously, when we see angels we should rejoice in the Lord's awesomeness.

Angel's are a subject I'd like to study one day,

Isn't the Holy Spirit our "Guardian" their are verses that speak of them as ministers

I not sure but it sounds pretty good to me. can i share what i found yesterday on my phone when I was flicking through passages. it is about angels.

Zechariah 4
1 Then the angel who talked with me returned and wakened me, as a man is wakened from his sleep. 2 He asked me, "What do you see?"
I answered, "I see a solid gold lampstand with a bowl at the top and seven lights on it, with seven channels to the lights. 3 Also there are two olive trees by it, one on the right of the bowl and the other on its left."
4 I asked the angel who talked with me, "What are these, my lord?"

5 He answered, "Do you not know what these are?"
"No, my lord," I replied.
6 So he said to me, "This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: 'Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the LORD Almighty.

it sounded in another version like zechariah was talking to God and the angel was replying for God in his vision.

Since the word "messenger" is given the interpretation "angel," then how can there be such a thing as angels? Did you know that Angelology comes from Paganism and is not in Orthodox Judaism.

Awesome...thanks for that, I haven't tried Angelology before, I might give it a go. :)

The old testament is full of stories of Angels and what they do. So much is missed when you dont
go to the Hebrew original words.
2,380 times God should have been rendered Eloheim= angels.
The angels did God's work in creation they carried out his wishes. As they are walking through the garden they say let us make man in the image of God.

The Angel of the Lord encamps, takes up residence, around a believer.

Psa 34:7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth.

We are told clearly that Peter had his own private angel as did all the other believers who waited for
Peter when he was in prison:
Act 12:15 And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.

The servant was scared so Elisha prayed for him to see in the 4th dimension and all around them was a vast mighty armie of Angels in flaming chariots !

2Ki 6:15 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?
2Ki 6:16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that [be] with us [are] more than they that [be] with them.
2Ki 6:17 And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain [was] full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

If you walk around talking to your angel they will lock you up.

How the angel directs us is up to The Heavenly Father.

The angels are like an army with Generals and privates.
There are the twenty four elders who sit around the Throne.

There is Gabriel the arch angel.
There is the angel of His presence !

There is a destroying angel.
There are creating angels.

There are ministering spirits.
Yashua has a hoard of angels working for Him !

Angels came through the same process as we did.

We will be like the angels "
Luk 20:36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.

Psa 68:17 The chariots of God [are] twenty thousand, [even] thousands of angels: the Lord [is] among them, [as in] Sinai, in the holy [place].

How is that for now ?

The old testament is full of future events , Prophecy.

Some people talked with angels and did not know they were angels so they must look like us!

The ANGELS being of God's nature, they must be sinless and therefore unable to die - seeing that sin brings death (Rom.6:23). They must have a literal, physical form of existence. It is for this reason that when ANGELS have appeared on earth they have looked like ordinary men:

- ANGELS came to Abraham to speak God's words to him; they are described as "three men", whom Abraham initially treated as human beings, since that was their appearance: "Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree" (Gen.18:4)

- Two of those ANGELS then went to Lot in the city of Sodom. Again, they were recognized only as men by both Lot and the people of Sodom. "There came two ANGELS to Sodom", whom Lot invited to spend the night with him. But the men of Sodom came to his house, asking in a threatening way "Where are the men which came in to thee this night?". Lot pleaded, "Unto these men do nothing". The inspired record also calls them "men": "The men (ANGELS) put forth their hand" and rescued Lot; "And the men said unto Lot...The Lord hath sent us to destroy" Sodom (Gen.19:1,5,8, 10,12, 13).

- The New Testament comment on these incidents confirms that ANGELS are in the form of men: "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers; for some (e.g. Abraham and Lot) have entertained ANGELS unawares" (Heb.13:2).

- Jacob wrestled all night with a strange man (Gen.32:24), which we are later told was an Angel (Hos.12:4).

- Two men in shining white clothes were present at the resurrection (Lk.24:4) and ascension (Acts 1:10) of Jesus. These were clearly ANGELS.

- Consider the implications of "the measure of a man, that is, of the Angel" (Rev.21:17).

The post new testament now is filled with cynicism , disbelief, self-righteousness, and faux enlightenment.
At every opportunity I try to listen and hear Gods messengers, I believe it and because I do and asked the lord may I see one, I was lucky enough to see one in a vision in meditation with God of which I am so thankful and was given a simple message :). What a waste buying into the lies of our modern times that communication with them doesn't exist.
