I am thinking of having a ham for New Years.I am fussy about my ham because I don't like a smokey flavor.I like a nice mild flavored juicy ham.The last time I made a ham it was a "Cook" and it was awful. It was grainy and dry.Any suggestions?I don't want a huge ham either.I have heard that Costco has a nice ham.

Before putting the ham in the oven, I spice it up, cover it all with a layer of brown sugar, insert whole cloves (as illustrated in the picture), and add some water. Basting occasionally while baking helps to keep the ham from drying out.

John likes moist ham like most normal people

The mother of a guy I dated years ago had a different twist on ham & roasts. Her background was Italian. Anyway, she would do the spicing, then coat everything with mustard. No basting needed. Roasts were so tender; the hams were great. And the mustard taste was negligible.

I just finished a Costco ham and it came out perfect. I've forgotten the directions but it was something around warming it for 250 degrees for 4 hours, but I'm probably confused by other things we cooked. The great thing I liked is the fact it can be cut into freezer bag sizes and just microwaved later for meals. I do think it was around 10 pounds but we enjoyed every bit of it. It even came with a cranberry sauce to spread on it after it was cooked.

I served a slab of ham in the cafe for breakfast... a slight touch of apricot preserves with taters and eggs

If they are already cooked don't you have to just warm them up?That is what I thought I would do.Freeze what we do not eat for later.I love the bone for bean soup.

It is just a warm up as I understood it, and as I said I probably forgot the amount of time, and that's exactly what I did. I froze the remainder in freezer bags. I was just talking to my wife and we're going to purchase another one for Christmas.

I like ham that's juicy, too, rather than dry. Lately I've had good luck slow cooking hams in roasting bags, which, in general I don't like using.

That's a good looking ham. I think it'd be great for New Years and is prolly what I'll get. Definitely a non-cook ham, that's awful convenient to be able to just spice it up and warm it up. I usually still cook it for 2-3 hours though.

It looks good with those slices cut into it, I'm going to do that this year, lol. I always make my own glaze. It's easy and can be made many ways. Brown sugar and honey is a good base for it. Some OJ also. Those Apricot preserves mentioned sounds good too though. I like apricots.

Hams good for this and can eaten on for days. I like to toss a little in the skillet and saute it up with or without eggs and dip it in horseradish and good mustard, or cut up fruit in with it, or peppers & onions, mmmm.

Kathi. I can't believe it, I somehow still have the directions for warming my Costco:

Kirkland

Signature
Applewood Smoked

Master Carve Ham
Boneless • With Natural Juices

Warming Ham
1. Heat oven to 350°F. Remove ham from packaging and place flat side down in a 2-inch deep baking pan, fat side UP. Cover ham tightly with aluminum foil to help retain moisture.
2. Bake approximately 10 minutes per pound, or until internal temperature reaches 130°F.
3. Remove ham from oven. Let stand , covered, until internal temperature reaches 140°F.
(about 10 minutes), before slicing to serve.

No surrender necessary, Kathi ... I was just teasing Reba about the use of Coke and not Pepsi. I prefer Coke; Reba prefers Pepsi ... it's a continuing joke between us. :wave2
