has the world ever gotten better?

I hear people often say: when things were just good or when the world was good.by that the mean there used to be a time when the world or during their early lives or living when there was decency and morality, boom and enjoyment.
However even the bible, as old as it is, has recorded even fiercer 'worlds' such as Sodom and Gomorrah SAG, Nineveh, Moses' awful experience with stubborn Israel, the nations neighboring and far from Israel, the world tht gruesomely executed Christ etc, and the early gentile's experience etc

So how has the world really gotten better? There is nothing new, I think - provided we are in this blown ball called the world.
So when the elderly in our midst say: better days, what exactly are they talking about? What is worse than the account of SAG

Granny will high light that the Gospel is growing like leaven in a good dough.. it is spreading increasing the Bread of Life around the world... Sure i see the the ugliness of isis.. Don't we know .. Our God is the Victor ... Reading the history of the Children of Israel we see the victory while they had their eyes fixated on the Lord. damnation when they looked to themselves... .. Shepherd boy David did not hide and cry he and his Lord God faced Goliath and what? they were victorious ...

American Christians coward back in the 50s waiting for rapture.. They showed a lack of faith in the walk with the Lord only wanting to be raptured... When we are told "go ye into all the world and preach the gospel" God will once again raise up His army...

I actually do think the world is better than it has been.
As an example, we've decided the old fashioned ruthless dictator is an obsolete and outdated way to lead a country. And look at how slave/owner relationships have changed. And how men take brides for themselves. It hardly means man is becoming like God. It just shows even fallen man can recognize whats good for people and what's not.
