Have you ever been hooked on phonics?

I love the phonics technique because it works. Now teachers use memorization most of the time and we have teens graduating high school who can't read or spell. :shame

Destiny, that is so true. I have wondered why on earth they stopped teaching phonics :shrug

I don't get it either, Caroline... it seems anything that works they scratch and whatever don't work they keep. Everything is backwards. :shrug

I think the "No child left behind" policy is leaving every child behind. I'd love to tell you how they handled my nephew this year but it would take a long time. Basically, they evaluated him over and over and finally agreed that he needs special consideration in some instances (he has aspergers), then they set him up for failure repeatedly by ignoring professional advice. My sister is going to homeschool him now though, so it will be better.

I should have realized the government was behind it.

I think it's wise to just home school these days if you can, so your sister is making a good move. I could go on a tirade about why our kids are a lot better off home schooled on so many levels.. but I won't since it could get controversial :wink3
I'm glad to hear your sister is homeschooling though. :thumb

Yeah, me too. I fully intend on homeschooling when the time comes Lord willing :yes
