Health

I just want to give some helpful tips on good health!

Firstly, we are to give God our bodies! :) It says in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 AMP

Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own,
20 You were bought with a price [purchased with a [a]preciousness and paid for, made His own]. So then, honor God and bring glory to Him in your body.

Also, in Romans 12:1

I appeal to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship.

So how do we do this?

Well, first we must give our bodies completely over to God. Eating foods with nutrition and exercise is also vital to your health. Eating the right way will actually make you less vulnerable to disease, and can even reverse diseases.

Also, we have to be careful what we do WITH our bodies. We must keep our body from acting out the temptations our flesh desires.

I hope that this post will inspire you to get in good health, or to encourage you to continue to pursue good health!

And when you say "eating right" means from my experience to turn the medical establishment's and government's health advice around 180 degrees and you'll be fine. I go over this again and again on the health forum.

The stuff they have you worry about and the pills they try to coax the general population on (usually some "numbers disease" where something is "too high") does not mean diddly squat while the things we should be concerned with, including proper nutrition, is not preached by too many people, including many "health" advocates. It's something usually superficial.

I suspect too many Christians are on sickly prayer chains and dying in droves to the scorn and laughter of atheists because they believe the health advice that's out there, and eat all the wrong processed foods, and avoid things (such as the sun) which they should not actually avoid.

So yes, I take your advice seriously, but let's not mix the Lord's advice with Belial and think we are doing ourselves good. After all, any establishment that has a snake for their insignia raises severe suspicions with me.

Hi Angel,

I don't want to get into a debate with you but 1 Cor 6 is not talking about the flesh. Romans 12:1 kind of is, but not in the context of health and fitness. HOWEVER, I do agree with you and let me give the verses why:

3 John 1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
1 Tim 4:8 For Bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things.....

Yes, I know that last verse seems weird to support health and fitness. "Bodily exercise" profiteth little.... But um..... it does profiteth! Little, sure.... But little is much if God is in it! ( I don't know if that's actually in the Bible....)

Furthermore, it just makes sense. I view this flesh body we all have as a prision for our spiritual self, or at least some sort of chamber or even vehicle or container. We go to Church to build our inward man up, but if our outward man is too sick to go, our inward man suffers. Even if we drag the sick outward man to Church or into our prayer closets or whatever.... It's tough to focus on the spiritual when our flesh is sick or even weak and tired.

David danced with all his might! He was a healthy man... Whupping up on lions, bears and giants! He still would've danced with all his might, but it wouldn't have been pretty or a long dance if he weighed 350 lbs and obese! Jehu outran chariots..... He was under the inspiration of the Lord, but God would've had a harder time if Jehu had a hangover (that is a belly hanging over his belt!). Of course, I'm being a bit humorous now... But only to make a point.

Jas 5:14 talks about praying for the sick and he gives us a strong promise that prayer will help. However, what else could we pray for IF we didn't have to focus on the sick? We all have flesh and sickness will happen, but it doesn't have to be so much....Then we can spend more time praying for understanding of God's Word.

So Angel.... I do agree, and don't let my protest on the verses you use distract you or anyone else. I am a former personal trainer and have a masters in physical education. I am 100% behind you on your reasoning.... Even if you disagree with me on the use of your verses, let's pick that up some other time and stay focused on the original topic. Good advice and I hope people flock to topic.

At what point does "staying fit" become worship of the body? There is a huge Crossfit boom going on where I live in Texas. A lot of my high school friends are getting ripped and in better shape than they have ever been. Pintrest is chalk full of healthy recipes. At what point does eating healthy and being healthy become worship of food and self?

Dear BeTheLightRTees,

I think... that those who turn to food instead of God is idolatry. I also think that getting in shape can be for vain reasons, so you have to be aware what your motive is of being healthy. One may disagree, but I believe that my being belongs to God, and if I abuse with food, or drugs, or anything else, I have turned away from fellowship with God.
