I am a Christian, trying to get closer to god. I really want to hear his voice, but I’m not entirely sure how to do it. YouTube’s told me to be still, read scripture, and be in a quiet environment, but to mainly distinguish my thoughts, and the enemy’s voice, from the lords voice. However I’m not entirely sure how to do that, when I’ve tried I felt like I didn’t hear anything god would say. I know it’s something I’m not doing, but would could it be? I could use some direction on this.

Try to see if my "angels in tongues" thread in the Christian Talk and Advice section will help you; and anyone else with a need check out if it will help you. God bless you all abundantly.

Why do you want to "hear his voice"? Every time you read the Bible you are hearing the voice of God. Trying to actually hear a voice can lead to being mislead by your own thoughts or by demonic voices. The vast majority of the time God speaks to us, the primary way he does so, is through Scripture or promptings of the Spirit or through others, not an audible voice. I highly recommend not seeking such an experience and especially not using such a metric as determining whether you are close to God or not.

If you want to get closer to God, as any believer should, just continually read the Bible, obey, and pray. Tell God you want to be closer to him and he will hear and respond as he sees fit.

Hi and welcome to the forums.

Hearing God speak is quite important. Jesus said "My sheep know My voice..." John 10 Paul wrote that "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the WORD (greek Rhema = spoken word as opposed to written) of God. " Romans 10:17

In Matt 28 our Lord said to go and make disciples. You need a good mentor to train you in hearing HIM.

A simple question for you.
Would you recognise his voice if you heard it?
The bible is God's word and you don't recognise God speaking to you through it.
Godly preacher strive to deliver a message from God to the congregation, are you listening.
Another question for you.
How often does the comma der in chief deliver personal messages and orders to new recuits?
He relies on ' Standing Orders ' that set out how a military force conducts itself.

We have standing orders they are called the Ten Commandments.
How well do you comply with your commanders orders.
