[__ Prayer __] Hearing our thoughts

What scripture says GOD can hear our thoughts? I believe He can, but sometimes i worry if my prayers are not as significant to Him, as if I would say them aloud :shame2

He can:

Psalm 44:21 states that "he knows the secrets of the heart" also in Psalm 139:23 the author asks God to search his hearts and to know his anxious thoughts.

I like praying aloud because if I think it there's a small chance that another thought might pop into my head. I don't get side tracked if I'm really passionate about a prayer though. Maybe that's the key-be passionate about what you're saying. Seek and you'll find...He's probably sending you signs right now on how to better reach Him.

As mentioned above, it doesn't matter if you say a prayer in your head while riding your bike and listening to your iPod, or whether you're on your knees praying aloud. God will still hear you. Of course you may find it easier to concentrate if you say it alound - but it's more just personal preference. God knows all, and he knows your thoughts.

All of our prayers are significant to God. He loves us. ^^

Interesting question about where it says God hears our thoughts. So I did a search and found a surprising number of verses where this is stated:

1 Chron 28:9- And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts : if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever. KJV

Ps 94:11- The LORD knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity. KJV

Ps 139:23- Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts : KJV

Isa 66:18- 8 For I know their works and their thoughts... KJV

Prov 15:26- 6 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD... KJV

Matt 9:4- And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts? KJV

Luke 5:22- But when Jesus perceived their thoughts , he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts? KJV

Luke 6:8- But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth. KJV

Luke 11:17- But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth. KJV

Heb 4:12- 2 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. KJV

Yes, God knows the thoughts and intents of your heart, but spoken prayer has a different kind of power behind it simply because there is power in words. Words are how God created the heavens and the earth (God said... and it was); He creates the fruit of our lips (Is. 57:19); and He specifically said to Put Me in remembrance... declare thou that thou mayest be justified. (Is. 43:26). Take with you words and return to the Lord (Hos. 14:2). You shall decree a thing and it shall be established for you and the light of God’s favor shall shine on your ways. (Job 22:28). Praying the Word out loud has much more power than thought prayer. We are to return the Word of God back to Him in prayer for our benefit, not his. It actually puts us in remembrance of His promises to us, and builds our faith. And faith is what brings prayer results. Spoken prayer that speaks the Word has power.

Words are how God created the heavens and the earth (God said... and it was);

  • He creates the fruit of our lips (Is. 57:19); [/*:m:3sce39o9]
[*]He specifically said to Put Me in remembrance... declare thou that thou mayest be justified. (Is. 43:26). [/*:m:3sce39o9]
[*]Take with you words and return to the Lord (Hos. 14:2). [/*:m:3sce39o9]
[*]You shall decree a thing and it shall be established for you and the light of God’s favor shall shine on your ways. (Job 22:28).

Psalm 139 (NIV) said:
  1. * O Lord, you have searched me and you know me.
    [/*:m:3sce39o9]
  2. * You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.
    [/*:m:3sce39o9]
  3. * You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.
    [/*:m:3sce39o9]
  4. * Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord.
    [/*:m:3sce39o9]
  5. * You hem me in--behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.
    [/*:m:3sce39o9]
  6. * Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.
    [/*:m:3sce39o9]
  7. * Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
    [/*:m:3sce39o9]
  8. * If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
    [/*:m:3sce39o9]
  9. * If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,
    [/*:m:3sce39o9]
  10. * even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.
    [/*:m:3sce39o9]
  11. * If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,"
    [/*:m:3sce39o9]
  12. * even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.
    [/*:m:3sce39o9]
  13. * For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.
    [/*:m:3sce39o9]
  14. * I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
    [/*:m:3sce39o9]
  15. * My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
    [/*:m:3sce39o9]
  16. * your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
    [/*:m:3sce39o9]
  17. * How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!
    [/*:m:3sce39o9]
  18. * Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you.
    [/*:m:3sce39o9]
  19. * If only you would slay the wicked, O God! Away from me, you bloodthirsty men!
    [/*:m:3sce39o9]
  20. * They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name.
    [/*:m:3sce39o9]
  21. * Do I not hate those who hate you, O Lord, and abhor those who rise up against you?
    [/*:m:3sce39o9]
  22. * I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies.
    [/*:m:3sce39o9]
  23. * Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
    [/*:m:3sce39o9]
  24. * See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.[/*:m:3sce39o9]
