I'm an atheist who has been becoming increasingly active in atheist and skeptical circles in recent years. I find that there is a lot of misunderstanding about what atheists are, what we do and don't believe, and so on. I also find that there's quite a bit of vitriol, and I've striven to develop a more "Dawkinsian", sympathetic voice to try to counteract it.

I'm hoping that increased understanding will eventually result in more civility regarding the subject, rather than the hatred that we unfortunately see so much of.

I'm looking forward to participating here... thank you for having me.

For any who might care... I just want you all to know that I haven't forgotten about you or abandoned you or anything. I've had a *lot* going on this month... between my vacation (my usual trip to the science fiction convention called "Shore Leave", which is actually rather necessary for my mental health), my getting laid off last Friday and having no other prospects, and my being moved from my current apartment into another one against my will this Friday morning (and my disabilities making it difficult for me to prepare for the move), debating matters pertaining to religion has had to take a back burner. Or more like a burner on a stove in a neighboring state. Or country. *cough*

I'm not likely to be checking in here very much, if at all, for at least another couple of weeks, so anyone wishing to get in touch with me should probably either PM or mail me directly at pianodwarf at gmail dot com .

Hope everyone is doing well, or at least better than I am in my current "Perfect Storm", and I do hope to talk to all of you again soon. Best, P
