Awesome. :)

What kind of kit do you jam on?

I got myself a Tama Superstar Custom in delicious amber fade.

12,14,16 rack toms
24x18 virgin bass
13x6.5 Warlord snare drum

All Tama hardware including Iron cobra twin pedal and hat stand.

As for metal i wield Paiste Alphas.

14" rock hats
17,18 rock crashes
22" rock ride
10" splash
18" rock china

I am 16, so I don't have the best kit or anything.

Pearl Forum, black (the best colour).
2x 14" snare drums
1x 10" tom
1x 12" tom
1x 14" floor tom
20" kyck drum

Paiste 101
14" hats
16" crash
20" ride

Stagg
12" china

Dixon dobule kyck

and other stuff.

My kit is getting old now, and I am looking at getting a new one. Especially cymbols - my crash has got a crack 6" long in it and cymbols are sounding bad. Maybe getting Zildjin ZXT or something like that.

What's your favourite DT songs/albums.

I love train of thought. For a music prac test I drummed along to Stream of Conciousness. HOW EPIC!

You should have seen what i started with :lol

Don't worry you will get a great kit down the road if you keep at it. :)

You can't go wrong with Pearl and Tama, but if you have enough cash DW's are amazing.

As a general rule, a crappy kit can be made to sound good with decent heads and tuning, but crappy cymbals will always sound crappy.

Take time to shop around when it comes to cymbals, buy quality, do some research into what cymbals would best suit your needs. Good cymbals are your best investment when building a kit. :thumb

I like Train of thought and Systematic Chaos when it comes to albums.

When it come down to songs i LOVE playing As i am, honor thy father and Constant motion.

I agree that a crappy kit can be souded better if it ihas good heads and tuning. At the moment, I need new heads, but I do think that taking 3-4 hours to tune them is well worth it.

Crappy cymbols will always be crappy. I would rather spend $1000 on good cymbols and $800 on a kit and then buy good heads for it.

Systematic Chaos is awesome. But that fill after guitar solo in As I Am is soooo good to do, as is the similar one in Stream of Conciousness.

Never forget the important of having good resonant heads as well as batter heads. I know many people that splurge always on batter heads and never get resos. Having good resos makes it sound so much better.

It took me quite a while to learn the drum solo in as i am, i had to do a lot of improve due to my lack of octobans and cymbal stacks.

Here is my kit last year. (i will have to take updated pics with my new cymbals later)
The first pic is my Warlord snare.

Hi Nick, nice to have you with us. I wouldn't say I'm a fan of Dream Theatre really, but I do like some of their stuff. I used to listen to them waaaay back when. I remember once driving down the interstate listening to a song on Falling Into Infinity (don't remember which) when all of a sudden, just as the drum solo was beginning a long procession of about 8 or 9 Stanley Steamer vans comes charging down next to me! It was hilarious :lol

Just imagine a bunch of these rolling down the road to the coolest drum solo ever :shades

And by the way, John Petrucci is PHENOMENAL! :yes
