Hello all, been looking for a good christian forum to join for and this one seems just what i'm looking for. I'm a 20 year old male, who has belived in the christian faith all his life but hasn't had alot of teaching or guidance on it, and just recently deciding it's long past time i got into motion and started learning God's word and reading and understanding the Bible. So i've bought one!
Thing i really would like though is somebody to tell me and guide me with how to read it?
I dont want to sound stupid but do you just read it cover to cover or what? I'm very keen to learn how to become closer to God but i have no idea how to study the Bible as I don't attend a church or anything and to be honestI'd just rather worship in my own way. Could anybody answer me questions please, i'd be very greatful for guidance and a knowledgable voice to talk to.
Warm greetings all,
from Steev.

Welcome to the forums. I may be able to point you in a few different places to look, as I am sure many user could. Personally I'd start with John and then Romans, however that's just my idea. If I can help, feel free to PM me.

Welcome Steev :wave

Don't worry about sounding stupid here, it's actually a good question. I read the Bible from cover to cover, but it is a very daunting task and not something I would recommend for someone who is just getting started. Blazin Bones said John and Romans, I would agree. I would also throw Acts in there as well, as it can be very inspiring learning about new Christians (that is what most of it is about). Mainly, though, just dig in and ask God to help you understand what you read and show you what He wants for you to know. I did that each time before I read anything, and boy did it make all the difference :yes

Steev - how great that you want to study God's Word! :D

Blazin Bones and Carol have great suggestions. And as I tell my 22 year old son, just pick it up and read it, even if it doesn't seem very interesting at the moment, or even if you don't "get" what you read right away. Later on, when the need arises, since the words are "life and truth," they tend to come back to you when you need them, and the application is there, too. It's great!

Hi Steev and welcome :wave
great to hear stories of people wanting to grow in their understanding and faith.

Suggestions here are good also if you need encouragement the Psalms are lovely.

I would also get a quiet time resource - there are some out there that will slowly go through a book of the bible and give you things to think about in your daily life (which don't take too long). I always found that helpful.
I would encourage you to get plugged into a good bible believing/teaching church as usually they have, small groups or discipleship groups for various different stages in someone's christian life personally I have found vital and so helpful.

Thank you all for the very warm welcome and advice, Ginger said Pslams is a good start and for some reason it is the first part i started reading, and the verses are helping me already as the words are giving me wisdom and strength staight away to help me with daily life.

Thanks alot all i'll be sure to read John and Romans also, again, the advice is very much appreciated.
