Hello, I'm Not a Christian

I'm not sure what forum policies are but I'm curious if you would tolerate someone with opposing viewpoints. In the interest of full disclosure, I was raised a Christian but I no longer am. This is due to several reasons, but primarily because of educating myself on religions. Now, don't get me wrong, I understand that I may have come to the wrong conclusions but at this point I'm willing to take up Pascal on his wager. I would like to pose questions to the forum every now and then that would hopefully inspire some of you to think about your beliefs and in turn I'm hoping you can ask me difficult questions that may cause me to think deeper about mine. I'm interested in civil discussion and don't intend to troll anyone. Is this something that is allowed here?

Hi

LORD JESUS CHRIST is the only GOD in this world who gave his life for human beings. No other GOd has given such a merciful act in this world

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, but, whoever believes in him, shall not perish but have everlasting in life" (John 3-16)

Thanks Caroline, I'm hoping to gain a little insight to Christianity that perhaps I didn't pick up on in my days of church. I'm also hoping to generate some good discussion along the way and hopefully we will all learn. My first question is what version of the bible do you recommend to someone looking to replace the KJV? I'm looking for an accurate translation and one that is easy to read for a native English speaking person. Thanks.

I used to be an avid KJVer, and it is one I still prefer because it is what I grew up on. But lately I have been using an ESV (English Standard Version). It is closely related to the NASB, and both are very reliable and were translated to the same standards as the KJV, but read very easily. Those two would be my suggestions. Check them out online first to see if you like them :)

Welcome! There are indeed forums here for the express purpose of discussion of opposing viewpoints, so as long as everything is civil and no name-calling, I don't see any reason not to feel free to spend some time here.

Welcome!

I am a native English speaker and have been raised on the NIV (New International Version). I find that easy to read, however the ESV (English Standard Version) I find good as well.

:) Hi,
Welcome to this forum.
Jesus said "I am the way, the truth and the life".

Share your ideas and believe in Jesus.

In Christ,
Jude

If you're searching for answers or are interested in reading what we have to say, you're most welcome. However, if you're just here to criticize our beliefs, you won't be. I see too much of that in Christian forums.

I recommend the New King James Version, as it contains the beauty and clarity of the KJV without the old English dialect that sometimes confuses. Additional revisions are also made to the text, but I also encourage you to read two different translations together if you're studying for answers to specific questions. You may now feel free to ask me a few questions about my faith if you'd like. I've been eager to share it with some one for a long time.

Greetings, S.H.!

As far as different translations go, have you considered online bibles? I like the ones found at Crosswalk.com ----> http://www.biblestudytools.com/. It defaults to the New International Version but you can find a couple dozen translations there.

You indicate that your background includes being raised in a Christian environment, yes? To me, the best way to study the word of truth doesn't involve finding a "perfect" translation. Of course we could become Greek and Hebrew scholars to further our understanding but thankfully, God doesn't require this.
:lock The better way is to consider a noble approach and search the Holy Writ to prove the truth of what is being taught or discussed. You have probably heard that the word of truth is revealed by the Spirit and locked to those who are not responding to a call that originates from God. Your willingness to come to a Christ centered forum gives me hope, so again, welcome from one new member to another.

2 Chron. 7:14
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will they hear from heaven and be forgiven their sins, and I will heal their land.
