Hello everyone. I am a recovering alcoholic. Been sober almost 9 months now. My husband is an addict who was also recovering but slipped a couple of months ago. He is now in a missions bible training center. He has only been gone now for 2 weeks and the program is for 8 months. (cant talk to him for 2 months, only letters, and he is in a different state) I have slipped into a deep depression with anxiety. I have suffered with this since I was 14. Am now in my 30's. It is hard for me to be separated from my hubby. I am seeing a therapist. Some people, like the ones at the mission where my husband is, think that medicine or therapists are not biblical. Can I get some feed back? Also, if anyone knows of the mission teen bible training centers, what do you think of them?

My personal opinion is that therapy from a secular psychologist is not really all that beneficial. I would suggest you seek counseling from a Biblical Counselor.

One thing you must do in order for counseling to be truly effective is accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and saviorâ€â€if you have done that then you are well on your way. I make it a point to say that because it is my personal belief, which I might add is based on the Bible, that in order for true change to come about one MUST have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit must be present in the counseling process and ultimately only God can bring about heart changeâ€â€which is what is needed, secular psychology primarily deals with behavioral change and ultimately such changes will not do much good in the long run.

I myself am attending Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary working toward gaining my Masters of Divinity with Biblical Counseling. So if I can provide any assistance in the mean time, before you get a Biblical Counselor for yourself, I am more then happy to do what I canâ€â€it is my desire and calling to serve God by serving others.

I imagine you probably don’t know much about Biblical Counseling and have no idea where to find one, well perhaps the following links will be helpful:

https://www.nanc.org/page.asp?contentid=1
http://ccef.org/home.htm

On the first link (the NANC one) you should see the words “Counselor†on the right-hand side of the webpageâ€â€click it and then fill out the appropriate information to look up a counselor in your area.

On the second link (ccef.org) you should see the words “Counseling Servicesâ€Ââ€â€move your mouse over it and you should see a list appearâ€â€select the words “How to Choose a Christian Counselor.â€Â

Hopefully those two sites will be helpful. In the mean time I will be praying for you and if I can provide further assistance please PM (Private Message) me with any questions you may have.
