Hi my name is Jason and I am happy to say hi on christian forums. There are many things I want to talk about here and some of them may anger people but what I say is not intended to be so... Its meant to question, to find out, to learn. The first of which I have posted below and wish to know what you guys think. Im curious and you will learn more about me by reading through this. Thank you...
This is a belief of many Christians that has angered me deeply for a long time. To be a good christian you have to go to church and learn from your pastor and never question anything good you hear about the church. Here is a part of the sermon on the mount and to this day it has rung true with me above all else... This is where I felt the true power and meaning of Christs words and its something that I don't think most Christians pay attention to. This is the part which made me see the true purity of a true Christians heart, and its word directly from the truest Christian:
5"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
9"This, then, is how you should pray:
" 'Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us today our daily bread.
12Forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.[a]' 14For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
With a passage like that, who could have ever started televangelism? At least not in the way its done today... Have you seen some of their leaders homes? How could they defame the word of god like that. If they ever had to be broken down like Christ was... I believe a true christian has some humility, Christ himself had TRUE humility. Do you think any of those people live in anything but corpulent splendor? Tell me I am sending money to charity and buy yourself a ridiculous house . This angers me. Its not that someone has money that angers me but that you take peoples great trust for you for granted and tell them that you are using the money for good works and then pay your own mortgage. You know what Im trying to say? I wonder how many hungry people these homes could have fed. The price of one of the homes I saw could have bought mosquito nets for the entire continent of Africa and basically ended malaria.
Its things that I have stated above that are the real deterrent to people joining with the Christian faith. They know when watching these people on tv that those diamonds are real and they shouldnt be there. The sad problem is that there are too many fools who cant see that.
Let us all unite and go after the true evil. True evil will come in the disguise and will have massive followers.
Thank you for your consideration of this email if you have actually read the whole thing... I hope you understand truly what I am trying to get at here. The people who sewed the seeds of my disbelief were those I wrote about a few paragraphs above. I go to a small baptist church in New Hampshire that is beautiful, with a very humble pastor who would give you the shirt off his back. In fact I think he has done just that a few times, haha... This man does not call our church a "church" but calls it a "meeting house" where friends come together to embrace each other and contemplate the word of god. He drives a kind of junky car, lives in a modest home, and would give his life for his flock. He shows us that you can life the true way and be happy and humble.
Thank you again for your time,
Jason
