Help with computer virus

Nikki

Member
I keep getting a warning from my AVG Resident Shield (anti-virus software) that says this:

Virus
Trojan horse Downloader.Keenval.P
is found in file
C:\System Volume Information\_restore{ED1AD764-6EE8-45D8-B9BD-559926E4C6F0}\RP97\A0022196.exe

The only problem is that I can't find one single anti-virus software that has this particular virus in their database or dictionary. I can find Downloader.Keenval.C, Downloader.Keenval.B, etc...

I can't find the P extention anywhere.

Also, I don't even have a C:\System Volume Information! I've looked all through my C drive.

It's there. You can't see it because it is a hidden system folder and shouldn't be tampered with. I'll look this up for you and see what can be done about it. :D

:-D This is why I use Norton.

Removal tool can be downloaded here...

After you run the file above, look for C:\Program Files\Common Files\KeenValue and delete the folder if it is there. A lot of adware and spyware is saved to the \Common Files\ folder.

This is more a spyware (adware to be exact) program than it is a virus. A good spyware scanner like Ad-aware and PestPatrol should be able to pick this up and delete it.

Hope this helps Nikki. ;-)

I've got the scan running right now. I looked for the folder in common files, but it's not there.

I use Secret Maker and Spyware Doctor for spyware and adware.

I'll let you know if the scan finds anything.

I use AVG and ad-aware. I've been able to take care of most all my problems so far except for one which I'll mention next. Remember to periodically update your AVG so that it can handle the newer viruses.

I have a lingering problem with something kicking out browser windows to "spotresults" and other search engines and downloading programs that run in my system. How do I stop this "program" that's causing this? I can see them downloaded in msconfig and disable them, but I want to stop the continual browser window harrassment.

SOMEBODY HELP!

This will let you see all your files.

This still didn't help. My computer seems to be running fine, I've scanned it with all the recommended antivirus, ad-ware and spy-ware things that people have posted, PLUS many others. I also did a search for this particular virus, but can't fine much with the .P extension. I can fine all kinds of Keenval viruses, but not the .P.

Oh well. Maybe it's a bogus virus.

Nikki Oh well. Maybe it's a bogus virus.[/quote] ================ It doesn't appear to be a bogus virus as I have found several references for it and it also seems to be a very pesky trojan horse downloader which is hard to remove. Go online and do the free scan with Panda. I have Norton and Sygate installed and Panda free scan detected 3 viruses which Norton did not. I am not sure how your searching for Keeval P but if you use quotations around "Keenval P" you will find a load of info and suggestions for removal. (use google search engine)
