Thank you everyone for all the welcomes!

StoveBolts,

The white fluffy stuff is a nice change from the wet ploppy stuff ;) however, the white fluffy stuff is more than welcome to take its depart about now :) .

I see you are in Michigan, did last night's storm hit your area? It appears this may be a long winter for everyone.

Oh yeah were getting slammed right now! I work near Detroit, but live about 47 miles north in a small town. It's been snowing pretty hard since around 6 am and it hasn't let up. I work on the 8th floor and earlier I was watching all the people pushing their cars, :rolling me, I think I'll learn from their mistakes and go a different route when I leave :nod I don't really have an idea how much it's already snowed, but I'll bet we've got close, if not more than a foot already.

Matter of fact, my boss just called and said if I didn't have anything pressing, to start heading home :)

I pretty much grew up in Spokane, and my Dad sent me some photo's yesterday of his driveway and his car (posted in the General forum under a topic called Snow). I remember back when, I drove a charter bus full of people to Belview for some seminar, and it was one of the few times it snowed in Seattle. Man, the city about shut down and they only had like an inch of snow :confused :D

Anyway, I really like Seattle. I lived there for a brief time, and even worked at Alaska Copper and Brass :)

I did see the picture you posted, didn't realize they got so much snow! I hope you were able to head out early and enjoy your day away from work :) .

You are correct, everything shuts down here with even a dusting of snow. At the moment, I'm stranded at home due to the ice on my hill of a driveway. They do not use salt here, just sand, not sure the reasoning behind it as salt is so much better.

Spokane is a nice place, I like eastern WA much better than over here, however our jobs have us glued to this side of the mountains. It is beautiful here though.

I grew up in Iowa, when I was a kid we would have 5-6 ft drifts of snow, the last year I was there it was 40 below with the windshield. It doesn't get like that now though.

Hey Spiffy (love that name lol!)

Yeah, I got out of work around 4ish. :D Drive home wasn't too bad. (Mi uses salt :approve 0 ) Taking a guess, I'm going to say I had about 14 inches covering the driveway and yes, I made it all the way home just to get stuck in my own driveway :lol (Mi uses salt :approve 0

I think the official number for 24 hrs was like 23 inches of snow in Spokane. Other areas got up to 32 inches and with what they already had, that put some places up to 36 inches as a total :crazy

Spokane also uses sand, and they allow studded snow tires along with chains. It sure takes it's toll on the roads. Last summer when I went back, heck, I didn't have to steer my car on I-90, I just let it follow the ruts :gah Seriously though, I remember one year where instead of using sand, they decided to use pea gravel :gah The windshield industry did well that year ;)

For awhile they used a spray mixture that was car friendly (didn't promote rust) on Stevens Pass and yes, it melted all the snow really well, but you had better carry an extra gallon of windshield fluid with you or you'll have so many streaks on your windshield from the road spray that you'll have no idea where the road it :confused I never did understand why they would use something that created such a hazard as not being able to see out your windshield :help

What part of Iowa are you from? That's a pretty big change in geography.

StoveBolts,

I grew up in between Sioux City, Iowa and Omaha, NE on a farm. I do not miss the hot summers nor the cold winters.

We are supposed to be heading out of town tomorrow, flying, to Kansas City, but we are to be getting heavy winds, blizzard like conditions, maybe a ft of snow, freezing rain and more snow tomorrow. We might just be spending the holidays here :bigfrown But, I figure, if we do, I'll save about a 10 lb weight gain :lol

Glad you made it home OK yesterday.....not too bad getting stuck in your driveway - perhaps a little emberrasing but who's watching :)

Well, I hope your flight went well and welcome to the blizzard :lol

I used to drive truck between Portland Or and Chicago, then Tx to Wis to LA back to Portland and man, going across the mid west was always a long ride... Finally ended up just staying up on 94 :yes I can see why you enjoy the Northwest :D

One thing I've always loved about flying over the Cascades on a clear day is all the dead volcano's. totally Awsome! :thumb

Glad your here and I hope you have a great Christmas!

Hi Ginger.....thanks for the welcome! Are you in the flood areas?

No, so am fortunate, at least the snow has cleared, but am so glad I got my 2nd white Christmas ever :clap3 Are you Seattle side of mountains or the other? Bet you would get hotter summers and worse winters?

Good to hear, Ginger. I feel sorry for all those people whose homes were flooded :sad

We are on the west side of the mts, the north side of Lake Washington. Which direction do you live from there?

It's nice to have a white Christmas every now and then.
