Narrator: Caterpillar dreams
A lifetime away
Of diamond wings
A heart full and fey
While heartbreak still lingers
And hope seems so far
God: "Do not despair child –
Believe what you are
"A child full of promise
A future so bright
While wings will come later
You still hold the light."
Caterpillar: "I want to be brilliant
Adored and admired
Be someone who matters!"
Narrator: Then oak leaf inquired:
Oak Leaf: "If God gives you diamonds
Fair wings full-encrusted,
What will you do with them?
Can you be trusted?"
Caterpillar: "How can you know that
Before you've been tested?
How do you trust God
For what you've been destined?"
Oak Leaf: "HE has been tested!
HE has been tried!
He is Yahweh Yireh –
The LORD Will Provide"
Narrator: With deep thoughts inside her
To rich for wakefulness
Does the fair caterpillar
Build a chrysalis
Then at last the day comes
After weeks of deep slumber
When the arthropod wakes
Now with wings, two in number
God: Butterfly, butterfly
Why do you frown?
My wings set you free
They should not weigh you down!
Caterpillar: But Lord, they're so heavy
So awkward a load!
How shall I carry them
Down the long road?
God: "I made them so special
So perfect and bright,
I made them for you child
To worship the light
With diamonds you sparkle
Though you shiver with fright
No less could I give you
Than wings made for flight!
These wings are made heavy
To stand up to windgust
That may buffet and batter
Though go through it you must
But these heavy wings lifted
So skyward they face
Like all burdens surrendered
To Me in my Heav'nly place
Yes these heavy wings lifted
Raise you to skies above
She who sows seeds of sorrow
Reaps sheaves of joy, my love."
Caterpillar: "But how do you know
That I'm ready for flight?"
God: "Trust me my child –
I am always right.
Though you visioned land-dwelling
Branch-crawling forever
I gave you a purpose
Far greater, far better
I made you with diamond wings
Giving you power
To triumph o'er gravity
Which binds you lower
I destined you flight
You dear creature of mine
So you could fly some closer
To visit me in my sky."
Narrator: Earthly dreams transitory
Howe'er seem so fine
Sill nothing can be greater
Than a purpose diviine
