Hi everyone :)

Quicky background on me.

I'm a recent convert to Christianity from...atheistic agnosticism. Within the past year, in fact. Someone made it make sense to me. I have...low background. My family only goes to church on Christmas Eve ("Methodists" but I have a feeling they're agnostic/atheistic from what they've said) and there's not a Bible in the house (excepting my picture story version I got as a kid from relatives XD). I haven't read it through before so I'm reading one online. It would be extraordinarily odd behavior for me to buy a Bible. Let alone their reactions to practicing Christians XB. I will buy one, though, probably towards the end of the first month of next year. I'll deal with explanation later.

I'm also a chemist.

I'm absolutely grateful I was able to find God. I'm trying to learn as much as I can right now.

That's about it :)

Welcome to CF.net carbon! :thumb

Ah, I remember well my first steps as a new Christian. I believed I was forgiven for the work Christ did on the cross. Not just believed but knew and that was about it. That was a wonderful time with so much to explore, so many things new to me and the whole of the bible before me.

Quite frankly I wanted to know what in the world happened and who this fellow was that did it!
:lol

Hi carbon,

Convert, hey?

Welcome to the club :wave :xmas AND TO THE FORUMS!! :xmas :wave

God bless,
Gabriel

Welcome to the site, Carbon. Also, welcome to the family, if there is anything we can do to help you as you learn more about your faith, feel free to ask us.

Thank you all for the wonderful welcome :)

Rick: Yeah, that's how I feel with reading the Bible XB I'm onto Numbers 18! And there's still a lot more! haha I've been book shopping though and it looks like there are some really nice study Bibles with footnotes and such. I'm debating between that and going traditional for my first :P

Gabriel: Yep. Mainly due to my scientific background, I wasn't believing. Then I was shown that they didn't have to clash. Which I knew before, but didn't *believe*.

Carol: Thanks :) I'm sure I'll enjoy my stay. I'll be busy these next few days, but I'm excited to get into this community.

StoveBolts: Indeed there are :) Merry Christmas to you, too!

Blazin Bones: Thanks, I'll take you up on that offer, beware ;)

caromurp: Definitely. It meant a lot to me :)

Yes, I have a study bible. But remember the notes at the bottom are not scripture ;)
IF you can find yourself a mentor, one maturely and solidly grounded in the Lord.

And read John!
Ok, that was the first book my mentor told me to read.
Yes, I was fortunate to have had a mentor from the very beginning. :pray

Acts 8:27 And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,
Acts 8:28 Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.
Acts 8:29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.
Acts 8:30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?
Acts 8:31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.

Thank you! I will read John next.

The mentor thing will be slightly difficult considering none of my family nearby believe XB. There *is* a church nearby that has a Bible study, but I wouldn't be able to go to it consistently and my parents would think I looney. Though perhaps I'll get the courage to ask my friend. But that would be a significant project with me and I don't want them to have to do that on top of their other work. So it's hard for me to ask anyone, honestly XB (ego trip for me too, to need someone or some people to help me understand and such XB)

Don't be afraid to ask :nono

After a time as life sometimes goes it became time that my mentor and I part company. I got a job elsewhere and had to move. During the good-byes and all he told me what a blessing it was for him to have discipled me. The enthusiasm I had was contagious and he said it was what he had needed for quite some time.

There's wisdom in God's Word for brothers to support one another. It works really well even when one isn't all that knowledgeable in scripture.
:yes

I will just have to get over that first question. That's the way I am with asking about anything. But thanks :)

Welcome Carbon! And Merry Christmas!

I like that name.. Carbon..

Anywho.

I hope you enjoy it here!
Thanks for the welcome :)

I didn't want my username to be google-able ;) So I tried to find a simple username that would fit me.

Carbon is great because it's in all living organisms (organic), can be soft as graphite, hard as diamond. OR it can be in nanotechnology as in buckyballs (which are basically tiny soccer balls made up of 60 carbon atoms) or in nanotubes. Very versatile element. I'm quite a fan of it. It's essential, albeit simple.

Merry Christmas to you, too :)
