Hiding One’s Thoughts

I think it is not always easy to hide one’s thoughts or intentions. If I walk into a convenience store with a shotgun and demand all the money in the cash register, it is clear I am committing a robbery. I might tell the judge later that I was practicing a part in a play, but I doubt he’ll believe me.

I think this principle holds true in less obvious situations, also.

"Give in to love or live in fear."

"I think it is not always easy to hide one’s thoughts or intentions."

I worked with a fellow whose home was in Dresden, which, of course, was behind the Iron Curtain back when there was one.

He escaped to the West, and the strongest reason was that he realized that in a totalitarian situation where you're being watched by everybody - even friends and family - It's IMPOSSIBLE to reliably HIDE your real beliefs. Eventually he would be caught, and condemned.
