Highlighting, Underlining and Note taking

If I could give advice to my younger self, this would be one thing I would say.
The things we read, such as verses from the Bible, we need to think and reflect as we read. Because these verses and lines can echo in our minds our whole lives. Resonate. Haunt even. Guide us on our journies.
Example John 18:36
"The Kingdom I promise is not of this world" stated Jesus in so many words. How profound that is. That has stayed with me all these years. It has kept me searching and not be satisfied with earthly reward. To keep yearning.
Augustine says " our hearts are restless until we rest in thee". Another imprint on my soul.
So keep reading but also underline and reflect on what you read. Choose ones that really speak to you. Perhaps some mystery but not necessarily.

If I look back I read a lot of pop psychology self help books. They were superficial. Like eating McDonald's instead of eating a well balanced meal.
We need nutrition for the soul. The Bible and other profound literature provide that. They don't answer all our questions but they keep us on track. They help us stay more "of this world" than "in this world". Keeping a healthy distance from our thoughts and emotions. Sacred self awareness. God in us keeping us awake.
