Homeless Need Christian Compassion, Not Bashing, Says Homeless Advocate
Jeremy Reynalds, advocate for the homeless and director of Joy Junction, the Southwest’s largest family homeless shelter, is calling for increased protection of the homeless by government officials across America, ASSIST News Service reports.
“Physical attacks against the homeless are increasing,†said Reynalds, “and they must come to a halt.†He called for police to take extra steps to protect homeless people. He agrees with some observers, including Michael Stoops of the National Coalition for the Homeless, that attacks on the homeless are a new type of hate crime.
Reynalds, author of “Homeless In The City: A Call To Service†said, “There were 76 [murderous] hate crimes of all kinds recorded between 1999 and 2004. In that same period, 156 homeless people were killed, simply because they were homeless.â€Â
Reynalds, who was once homeless himself, but now holds a Ph.D. from Biola University, said, “Our culture is becoming increasingly violent as Christian values fade. Many killers of the homeless believe they are doing a service to humanity by ridding the streets of homeless people in this way. Attacking the homeless is becoming a new urban sport... The homeless are not disposal people,†said Reynalds. “They are people for whom Christ died, and we want to help restore their God-given dignity.â€Â

UK media have often highlighted "God's Estate Agent"
Pastor Pete Cunningham, head of Green Pastures, (linked @ http://www.shorelinechurch.co.uk/conten ... older_id=2 ), was a London stockbroker before his call to AoG Pentecostal pastorate & now houses over 230 formerly homeless folk
He began by liquidating his pension fund to buy just one house
His new Shoreline Church is diagonally opposite Asda, which can be seen as trains approach Southport Station
Their 'Somewhere to go' drop-in for the homeless, opposite Southport station is open Sat & Sun lunchtimes, staffed by folk from many local churches & generously supplied by local farms/hotels/shops etc
Shoreline also run the first UK Masters Commission course
Both are linked at http://www.shorelinechurch.co.uk/conten ... older_id=2 & the stories are well worth reading
Just time to recommend http://www.TDJakes.org & the new series, on 2/3 Christian TV stations, by Ghana's much-loved Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo of http://www.kicc.org
His new book, 'The Coming Wealth Transfer' deals with Bible prophesies about God's miraculous supply to fund the completion of our Great Commission & is the subject of the current TV series
They & Creflo Dollar of World Changers Church, GA, all began in extreme poverty & have all proved God's 'many precious promises'
