House of Sand and Fog

This was nominated for some Academy awards, I think, like best actor for Ben Kingsley, which he deserved. My wife and I rented it last weekend. There is some language and some sexuality (it is rated R) so I do not recommend it for teenagers - although I can't imagine why a teenager would want to see the movie. No explosions or car chases. :)

It was very well done, though, in my opinion, as well as one of the most depressing movies ever made! If you are in the mood to be frustrated and depressed, go rent it! :)

I'm not bothered by depressing movies but you're right, this was very depressing. I didn't hate the film but it didn't rate that high with me for one main reason. The film wasn't realistic. The person who wrote the book had it set in their mind that it should end tragically and so to me it seemed forced.

I loved this film. I agree that it is depressing. But the people in it were not flat and one-dimensional. Like real people, they were each a mixture of good and bad. I would say this is one of the top 5 movies I have ever seen (and I have seen a lot of movies).
