Why do people talk so much about the Bible and so little about the Lord? Did the Bible create us? Did the Bible save us? I think not. Why not more attention to the One WORTHY of our attention?

Sometimes I hear people talking about the Lord but little about what the Bible says about him and sometimes what they are saying about the Lord is not in the Bible. On the other hand I hear people say "cause it's in the Bible" when ask a question about the Lord but can't tell where in the Bible it is or explain how they come to their conclusion.

The Bible does not contain all knowledge. When we walk with the Lord, we learn more. On the other hand, what we learn when we walk with him will not contradict the things he is quoted as saying in the Bible.

Most people probably knowingly or unknowingly go by the Sola Scriptura doctrine. So they were taught that the Bible is the only viable source of knowledge about God and all personal "experiences" with His spirit must be in line with the Bible. If you experience something that is unlike anything reported in scripture you'd have to doubt the authenticity of your experience. If it is contrary to scripture it's even worse.

We need to develop personal relationships with the Lord.

so how does one limit that? i mean what about the gemera, the kaballah. those aren't in the bible and if they are done without the whackiness they have. most biblical. yet one can soooooooooooo easily get whacky.

for the uninformed the kaballah in short is a number system assigned to the Hebrew letters and also its associated with judiasm and the Zohar. it can be useful. the gemera is where we get the 666.

How's it going, Jasoncran? Long time, no see.

Numbers? Throw out the numbers. Numbers have nothing to do with love, though I could show you something interesting about 666 if you ever wanted to see it.

im familiar with 666, and its two things.its the number of the gold that was bought by Solomon and its point to whom the beast was.

I was referring to the beast in revelation. In one version of the Bible I heard the phrase "sum of the digits" in connection with that verse, so I did some figuring. "F" is the sixth letter of the alphabet. "O" is the fifteenth. "X" is the twenty-fourth. The sum of the digits in all three cases is six. Put them together and you get the word "fox." It reminds me of this:

Now the serpent was more subtle than any other wild creature that the LORD God had made. Gen 3:1a

I've learned through experience that Satan is extremely subtle in the way he goes about tempting us. Satan is "sly as fox." Don't dismiss that as unimportant. Every time we let Satan trick us into sinning, we get hurt.

that isn't usable. why? the beast isn't satan. and one has to consider the first audience. they knew greek and Hebrew.

It is helpful to be aware that Satan is VERY clever. Otherwise he will trick you every time.

plain scripture.

ephasians says that the devil is wiley. the helmet of salvation protects against the wiles of the devil. that misses the point of what the gemera was for, you mix that and the kabbalah and do nearly the same. the numbers of gemera isn't for just that its also helps in understanding. 3,12,6, 40, 7.

Why do people talk so much about the Bible.

Romans 10:17 - Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

If I have not had His Word, then my personal relationship with him would've consisted of dancing naked around fire like pagan gnostics hoping that drugs and sex would somehow lead me to a heightened sense of spirituality and knowledge about God. Without the Word I could make God out to be whatever I want him to be. I need his word because I don't have the spiritual gift of hearing voices...

But he isn't particularly creative...he's been using the same tricks for the past several thousands years, such as denying the sufficiency/credibility of scripture.

Having said that, I still believe we can go overboard a bit and find ourselves guilty of bibliolatry...like they say, it's all about moderation.
