How do you live this out?

Deuteronomy 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

We talk a lot about loving the Lord, but how is this lived out in your own life? I mean, we talk a lot about faith sometimes as an object instead of an expression as I've heard it said, "You have to have faith in Jesus" just like I've heard, "I love Jesus".

These are great expressions, but I'd like to go beyond just using the words, I want to see how these words are lived out.

A biblical example might be found when Jesus asks Peter if he loves him, and Peter replies, "You know I love you" and Jesus responds, "Then feed my sheep". When Peter actually does this, which of course, is a continual work, then isn't Peter showing his love for Jesus by obeying his command?

I'd like to get your ideas on how "Loving the Lord with all your heart, soul and streangth" would be lived out.

Thanks!

I think in my own life it consists of first and foremost trying to dedicate myself to learning His words so that I can clearly understand what is expected of me. Then, in trying to live out what I've learned, well...passing all this on to my kids, submitting to my husband, standing firm on conscience when called to do so, and most importantly, finding ways to help out others, either with giving monetary gifts or sharing what we have.

Simply put, we should strive to obey everything that Jesus teaches and commands.

Thanks for your reply Dora and Shad.

This is an area I could really, really work on.... Just before Christmas, I took my son to the Rec center. Well, He had already gone to the swimming pool and while I was getting ready to go, another gentleman was sitting down across from me in the locker room. They were playing Christmas music across the speakers and when the song was done, the announcer wished everyone a "Merry Christmas". .. and the guy grumbled," !@#$ Christmas ".

Immediately my heart went out to him. Hey, I can remember a Christmas back in my early 20's where I cracked the first bottle open at 6 am, was passed out by 8, and cracked the second one later that night just so I could "Escape" Christmas... Anyway, I really, really wanted to reach out to this guy and I believe that the spirit was moving me to interact... but for some reason I just couldn't and it really bugs me that I didn't do anything. I didn't even look at the guy. I just grabbed my stuff and left the room.

I firmly believe that we have been blessed to be a blessing to others, and I've certainly been blessed. But wrapping our flesh around the commandment to love the Lord our God with all our heart, all our soul and with all our means isn't always as easy as just having the idea. I can say all the right things, but until I actually do them, they are just hollow words no matter how enticing they may sound.

Thanks for sharing!

Great question. How do I live this out? Honestly, quite poorly. Does realizing this make me "poor in spirit" and ultimately blessed to live a forgiven life? God is faithful and forgives when we don't live out what seems so simple and obvious during quiet times, but seems so impossible when I'm in the world.

I am looking for a way to truly live this out as well.

Hi Dad of Twins and welcome :wave

I think sometimes that it's about the journey as we become more aware and mature in our faith. In doing so, we can reflect back, but we always look forward eager in our relationship with our Lord :)

Thoughts?

God bless,
Jeff
