How do you work out?

Amazon says there is indeed a karate guy in that book, which makes the title odd as Jackie Chan trained in Chinese Kung Fu. I guess no more odd than the movie The Next Karate Kid, which was about kung fu training, not Japanese/Okinawan karate.

I've actually studied both (I'm half Japanese, half Chinese). My kung fu sifu started out in choi lee fut, but did not master it so did not teach it (he did manage to master 11 other styles, and taught those).

I have the original Just Dance but much prefer Dance Dance Revolution games. There are a few belly-shirts in there though, not sure if that would be considered "sexual". But most of the games are rated for ages 10 and up so its nothing too bad. And its all animated charters wearing the belly shirts, no real people.

So yeah Dance Dance Revolution is my favorite way to exercise.

I try to walk fast for one hour about two times a week. When the Lord let's me. He forces me to sit reading His word sometimes almost all day. So at night I try to get in some stretching and light arm weights, or marching in place or whatever I can do in the house. Side twists. I went on a 20 day water fast two years ago and lost quite a bit of muscle.
I'm now 47 and my knees have not been the greatest lately so running up and down my stairs before I go to bed is now out. I don't work, but do a lot of but sitting and reading lately. I guess my the literary part of my brain is getting worked out well. Lol. My speech has improved. :tongue
Sounds different, but it is where the Lord has me right now.

I work out 4x a week, 2.5hrs at a time.
I stretch every day for about 35mins minimum.
The 4x a week includes the time for serious stretching + dumbbells, then the Gym where i mostly use machines and moderately heavy dumbbells. This last just over an hour. Then i leave the gym and go to an apartment complex near the gym and i use their outside stairs for 10 flights, then its back home for 15 mins of aerobic.
Saturday i do the stretching + dumbells + Aerobic, no gym.
On Wed and Sunday i only stretch.
On Tuesday, instead of getting up at 5:10am, i get up at 4am.
This allows me to come home early on Tuesday, so that it feels more like a complete day off, even tho i did the 2.5.
So, by being finished on Tuesday by 7am obo, i then have the rest of the day off and then all day off on Wed.
Im pretty much a Nike person in the Gym.
All my gym shoes Nike's, all my shorts are Nikes (black)., and i usually wear grey T's.
I dont wear gloves, so, my hands are calloused from the years of "gym" and weights.
My advice to you if you are a male and want to start the gym process....(you should).
Dont wear socks that ride up the calf when you wear shorts and gym shoes:)
Find athletic socks, which fit the foot and ride just above the top of your gym shoes.
Save that classic (high sox) look for when you are in your backyard in August heat using an electric jackhammer to vibrate earthworms out of the ground to use as freshwater fishing bait.
To maximize your gym experience into the positive, you need to dress as tho you belong there which means you dont dress for the gym as tho you belong back on the earthworm farm.
Take off your rings, watch, chains.
Do not bring a gallon water jug to the gym.
Turn off your cell.
Do not try to talk to anyone, other then 'Hi"..... "Good Morning",.. as this annoys the people who are not there for conversation., which is 100%.
In the gym, you are in your own world, your own space, and so is everyone else.
And remember that the best thing about working out for years is that you get to die healthy:)
Ha.

i have my own method i do weights some weight machines try do some cardio and abs.. on my bench i usual do fairly heavy nothing i can,t handle i do set of six times 5 last few sets add weight .unorthodox yes i dont do show i do very little grunting or other noises and i dont like music when i work out . some weights i do sets 0f 10 x 3 my favorite in the bench press i have to work twice as hard at that.

That can't be right ,it's a short route.4.5 hours.I have done longer walks and not gone that far.

I just started a (semi-) new thing: training with the Japanese sword. I have a friend who recently began formal training with a sensei, and I have trained informally in the past. So I alternate karate days and sword days now.

I use a technique called TUT (time under tension) weightlifting. Basically I use less weight but slow down the rep so it feels as if the weight is 2x it's actual weight. It's better for the joints and the results have been amazing. I do little cardio, biking is what I like to do, less stress on the knees.

i miss the gym i enjoyed it but if i hit heavy it caused my shoulders to hurt.

I learned how to use TUT (time under tension) in my lifting and it's been amazingly.

Basically take 25lb dumbbells or lighter/heavier wherever your fitness level is at. Most people will do around 8-12 reps within 20-30 seconds. But using the TUT technique, it will take me 48-60 seconds to complete a set. The 25lbs feels like 40-50lb because the muscle is under stress longer but the weight is light so it doesn't hurt your joints.

Try that! It made a whole world difference in my weight lifting

Things are a little different here after the surgery. I used to work out like a normal person but recently the doctor suggested that I start walking 3 times a week. Start off slow, he said. 2 Blocks. If you get sore? Wait 2 days before you walk more. If you're able to walk 2 blocks then add 10% and continue after 1 day off.

I started off by walking the ½ mile to the grocery store and by the time I got home (1 mile round trip) I was done. (There's a story to tell about that, but post length would be two blocks long also) Three (3) days later and it was 2 blocks only, no more, at a fair pace and now I'm up to 4 blocks out and 4 blocks back. Shattered my self image because I used to go around thinking that I still had my twenty-year-old body and was invincible. I was never invincible.

Now? Just doing what the doctor tells me. He does know what he's talking about. Go figure.
