How does Christianity differ from other religions?

Christianity differs from all other religions in three areas.

The first area is the love, humility and faithfulness of God. Christianity teaches that God loves us so greatly, that although we were unfaithful to Him and betrayed Him He humbled Himself and took a human form and sacrificed His life to save us from eternal death and bring us forgiveness of our sins (John 3:16).

The second area is the about Christian life. As Christians we have to love others the way God loves us (John 15:12). We have to love our enemies, do good deeds for them and pray for them; if someone takes our coat, give them our shirt as well; offer the other cheek if someone slaps us on one; lend and do not expect it back; and be merciful like our heavenly Father (Luke6:27-36). Furthermore, we have to forgive our enemies unceasingly (Luke 17:4); not pay evil with evil, never take revenge; feed our enemy; not allow evil to defeat us; and over come evil with good (Romans 12: 17-21). Furthermore, legal dispute is incompatible with Christianity; and it is better for us to be wronged or robbed than to wrong others or rob them (1 Cor. 6:7).

Third area is about marriage. We are to love our spouse the same way as Christ loves His Church (Ephesians 5:25). Christ never abandons His Church. We, therefore, can never divorce our spouse. Furthermore, when we marry, we and our spouse become one. It is therefore, a one to one relationship. Remarriage after divorce, therefore, is adultery; and a person can have only one spouse (Mk 10:11-12, Luke 6:18; Matthew 5: 31-32).

Are there any other areas?

I believe that Christianity is the only faith in which it is believed that God Himself, as Holy Spirit indwells the believer. Christians never need seek God, He is right here with us.

greetings

Christianity is spelt - done -

wilst we were yet sinners Christ died for us the Just for the unjust ( wile we were still doing and saying and thinking wrong thoughts and words and deeds and generaly being rebels against the God who made us God sent a specily chosen one - the body part of Himself to die for us to be made right with God - the right for the not right ).

there is none right no not one for all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God ( all have put Self Instead of Needed Savouir )

there for God sent His one and only son ( the Body Part of God - Jesus whos's name means savouir - rescuer ) that who ever believed in Him shall not perrish but have eturnal life.

now the Bible is the only book:
inspired by God who is three parts in one just as a person is body mind and spirit
claims to be the word of God
tells of Chreation
tells why we are Here

claims that Jesus is God this is the key difference to all other religions

gives the reason for our existance - the chief end of man is to Love God and enjoy Him forever - to personaly Know and be Known by God

teaches we are born in sin so there for have not betrayed God - Judas betrayed Jesus - you betray a person you know by definition befor you become a Christian you do not Know God

we are taught to forgive as we have been forgiven - this is not how ever unique to Christianity this is also a part of Islam, Budhism and some other mystic religions but what is unique to Christianity is to love your neighbour ( all men and women and children ) as yourself

gives assurance of heaven and hell
says we die once then face the Judgment
tells of what will happen at the end of time
is backed up by archeology, History, geography and time.

other religions are spelt doing:
their chreation accounts are not clear - they are if you look loosly to some degree or another based on the Genesis account

they have no personal God or have many Gods who are contradictiry or vindictive or simply ideas to cling to or no religion organised or other wise

they have no hope of heaven because there is no assurance of being good enough even when they try

crucialy they say Jesus is not God

all other religions are said to be good enough to get to God even though they are contradictory

sects distort the Truth of the Bible - their leaders seek after fame , mony and property at the expence of their members

they may add other books to the Bible - mans wizdom added to man

they believe in reincarnation

guess at what will happen in the end times - with divinations, futuer predictions of vairious kinds and horoscopes

regaurding marige it says in the new testiment think in 1 or 2 corinthians ( check it out on Bible gateway ) that if a man or woman become a christian when they are married if 1 leaves and will not return the woman ( for this is spoken of as to women ) is free to remarry a christian - they are free to remarry but only in the household of faith

similaly if a man or woman dies then the suviving spouse is free to remarry - there is no marige in heaven.

may God broaden your understanding

every blessing :)

I do not think that this view about the absolute exceptionless prohibition of divorce is correct.

In Matthew 12, Jesus holds David guiltless even when he breaks a rule from God (the showbread rule is clearly described in the Old Testament as being from God):

He answered, "Haven't you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? 4He entered the house of God, and he and his companions ate the consecrated breadâ€â€which was not lawful for them to do, but only for the priests.

Later in the same chapter, Jesus basically states, despite what God's own law states, work on the Sabbath can be justified in certain circumstances.

He said to them, "If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out? 12How much more valuable is a man than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath."

The law concerning working on the Sabbath is not "man's law", it comes from God:

Moses assembled the whole Israelite community and said to them, "These are the things the LORD has commanded you to do: 2 For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it must be put to death.

People try to preserve the notion that God's laws are "exceptionless" by claiming that pulling a sheep out of a pit is not "work". It sure seems like work to me. Either way, there is the very strong implication that Jesus would have approved of doctors performing emergency surgery on the Sabbath - it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath. And performing surgery is certainly work.

And we also have the example of David. Jesus condones his actions even though God's own law forbad anyone but the priests from eating the showbread.

The obvious conclusion: The prohibition against divorce should not be seen by us as an "exceptionless" rule. Jesus gives us multiple examples of times when it can be justifiable to break even the laws that come from God's owm mouth.

To me, there a three key elements which define Christianity.

1 Faith. Faith is the key which is the only accreditation of righteousness for man. Other religions are based on a righteousness by human effort.
2 Jesus. Jesus conquered death and is the door through which all must enter, in order to receive eternal life. Other religions prescribe many different pathways.
3 The Holy Spirit. The gift of the Holy Spirit is the promise of eternal life to all who believe in the Son of God and the one who sent Him.

I don't think that love separates Christianity from other religions. The first time love is mentioned in the Bible is in Deuteronomy (in the Torah), not the New Testament. God commanded people to love one another (as the greatest commandment) from the start, so Judaism also must teach love.

I think Jesus is the main difference between Christianity and other religions.

I agree ... and specifically the INCARNATION.

That a man who was born out of a woman's womb and died on a cross, a man who got tired and hungry and angry and agitated and wept at his friend's tomb, that this man who got dirt under his fingernails should be God was, quite simply, the most astonishing, incredible, crazy-sounding idea that had ever entered the mind of man in all human history.

How does Christianity differ from other religions?

All other religions and cults are works based (what you do and what you get). Christianity is about what has been done for you.

I like that. :D

Christianity (and Judaism to a lesser extent) finds God seeking out Man, not Man seeking God.
