How does the Bible address global warming?

I don't know if this topic belongs here, but I do believe the Bible has something to say, whether directly or indirectly.

Let's look at Romans 1:23 and 25. 23. These global warmest do profess to be wise, but they become fools. And they have changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man, and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. 25. Who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

Sounds like the liberal church and liberal politicians to me. We even have many in the Evenglical Church that also believe very strongly in global warming.

Folks, these people are going to ruin our economy and give it over to the one-world government crowd. This has been bothering me for awhile now, and I am convinced it is one of the biggest lies of Satan ever. God help us.

I would look closer and wonder if you are the self-professed wise man who turns out to be a fool. You are placing material security and capitalistic econimical concerns ahead of the health and safety of generations of people to come. Who is replacing the image of God with the greed and wants of man? I doubt its the people who want preserve the earth for their own children and the nations around them. We might have to make some sacrifices, however, if we act now and wisely, solving the challenege of global warming need not destroy the economy and can, in fact, generate millions of new jobs in the environmentally-safe technology industry. This is the earth that God has created and entrusted us with. We have a duty to protect our environment.

How convienent that the call to neccessary changes in the excessive Western-consumer lifestyle are in fact the "lies of Satan".

Jesus didn't drive an SUV, the Son of Man didn't even have a place to rest his head. This is the kind of material humility that we should keep in mind when making some sacrifices in our everyday lifestyles. No one's asking you to abandon everything and live in the Sahara, but work towards a little bit more awarness and compassion.

This is a non-argument. Nowhere does Romans 1 give even the slightest inkling that those who are concerned with global warming are the ones "who have become fools".

Please, anyone, explain to us precisely how Romans tells us that those who are concerned with global warning are wrong.

I think that belief that global warming is a myth or is not the result of man's actions springs from political allegiances and has no real connection to the Scriptures at all.

If anything, since we are told to preach the gospel to all creation and since we are told that creation itself is of great interest to God (it groans for redemption), this is all the more reason to take care of our world.

Well I'm pretty sure those "terrible" communist, atheist, feminist, liberals all believe that the world will end one day too.. That doesn't stop them from doing something about the welfare of the earth NOW and for generations to come.

This kind of thinking is, in part, the fruit of all these terrible "Left-Behind" series and apocalyptic rantings. Too many Christians do not care about solving real problems in the world because they are assuming Jesus is just going to return and judge us all soon anyways. Remember, the FIRST christians thought Jesus was coming back in their lifetime and so far they are over 2000 years off the mark.

This will play out in the natural looking like, "global warming gone mad"... but in true reality it will be the wrath of God.

Obviously the truth about global warming matters (whatever it turns out to be) to anyone who cares about the lives of our children.

Now, are you prepared to support the claim in the OP or is it to stand as an undefended assertion?

I am sorry but this argument is simply incorrect. And all the back-slapping only serves to embarass the church more.

The reason is this: Even if the sun produces a devastating end-game punch of heat, this does not mean that some other agency (such as global warming) will not produce great, if not fatal, problems for us before this.

The argument about the sun is like claiming that a knowledge that Fred will die of cancer means that he can eat fried chicken to his heart's content, since cancer, and not heart disease will be what gets him in the end.

He may still suffer for years with the limitations of heart disease before he gets cancer.

Are you not being misleading and also warping the Scriptures to fit your ideology rather than a theology?

One could substitute any "ideological" position and then refer to Romans 1:23. In an effort to debunk it.

Let's be clear - the Scripture do not mention anything about Global Warming.

However the Scriptures do make clear that we should not esteem the creation over the Creator and that we (humanity) has been given the responsibility to care for the creation. Scripture also comments on the fact that the creation itself longs for the day that it will be made whole - free from the taint of sin.

Let's not confuse theology and ideology, or have our ideology warp our theology.

Rather theology should shape our ideology.

Global warming is a human term that is used in attempt to understand God's prophecies concerning the end of the world. So it's subject to much error because it doesn't see the whole picture. So I take what scientists say with a grain of salt since one their most common phrases is; "We now know that what we once thought was true is not true." ;-)

Agreement isn't always backslapping, drew. I don't like backslapping during heated arguments, but sometimes it's ok to just agree with one another, IMO.
We are all intitled to read the bible and then give an honest opinion/or assessment of what we see happening. I offered mine.

Isn't it believed that the earth has been through warming and cooling periods in the past? (rhetorical question)

It's apparent the earth's tempature may be rising. How much of this is actually the result of Human intervention is unclear, no matter what the "experts" say.

I tend to agree with the minority on this. I like the work Michael Crichton did on this subject.
