How I feel about POLLS

How do you feel about polls?

  • I hate polls

    Votes: 0 0.0%
  • I will probably always hate polls

    Votes: 0 0.0%
  • I refuse to vote in this poll

  • Total voters

I like polls on other sites, but on this particular forum I have a hard time choosing an appropriate answer, since usually I have more than one answer or a selection not put on the poll.

Polls? Love em!! BUT . . . invariably on forums such as this the author has an agenda which dictates that it contains less than a full complement of options IMO.

This is the most meaningful post I have made in at least three days. :-? In fact it is the only post. :P Been out of town.

I think Mutz has it right. The polls here usually contain less than a full complement of options and may even be slanted to make the pollster’s view the most logical or sensible choice. Maybe that’s because the doctrines are so entrenched in our minds that we have a hard time articulating any other point of view in an unbiased fashion. Those trying to fit into the limited choices may find that they have one doctrine stacked on another and can’t pull any of their cards out without risking a collapse and none of the choices include all their doctrines. I want to change my vote to a simple “I hate polls.†Alas, I have voted. Another reason I probably will always hate polls.
:-D

Vic, I know you mean well, but your moving of this thread is changing the context of it. It was my “melodramatic†way of objecting to an supra-abundance of problematic polls on the Apologetics forum, and to illustrate the difficulty of choosing any of the selected options.

ChristineES expressed a similar experience:
“but on this particular forum I have a hard time choosing an appropriate answerâ€Â

Her post is hardly appropriate for this forum but fits only ‘Apologetics.’

Mutzrein’s comments are also skewed by this move:
“invariably on forums such as this the author has an agenda which dictates that it contains less than a full complement of options IMO.â€Â

I humbly implore you to move it back. There’s a couple threads here that would be better served in Apologetics though. :wink:

LOL… thanks, Moniker… great quote. I love Mark Twain. :-D

Motion denied. :smt021 I'll gladly move the other threads though. 8-)

Put away the hammer, Vic. You could put an eye out with that thing. Besides, now you’re skewing the results. You’re scaring people away from voting in my poll. If no more than 5 vote, I’ll have to conclude conclusively that everyone does indeed hate polls. :wink:

I think we should poll everyone to see what they think of unread's poll...

Good idea. I can't wait to see the options. I wonder what I'll vote. :-D

Fnerb’s tagline:
My good works could avail me naught,
For they with sin were stained;
Free-will against God's judgment fought,
And dead to good remained.
Grief drove me to despair, and I
Had nothing left me but to die,
To hell I fast was sinking.

Your poem is missing the last line, btw. I keep trying to come up with a good one but, Alas, as a poet I was stinking. :-D

Tis' not. That is the complete 3rd verse of the Hymn. :wink:

Well, if you hum a few bars, I may be able to sing along. :-D It must have a great chorus. That last line sure is a downer though…

I did kind of quote the downer of the verses, didn't I?

Check out this link for the rest of the verses

Maybe I should use verse 5?

5. He spake to his beloved Son:
'Tis time to take compassion;
Then go, bright jewel of my crown,
And bring to man salvation;
From sin and sorrow set him free,
Slay bitter death for him, that he
May live with thee forever.

No one ever said Luther was an "always happy" kind of guy. :wink: :P

We could start a poll on what people thought of Luther’s hymns.
How’s this:
1. I don’t know anyone who likes Luther’s hymns.
2. I know someone who doesn’t like Luther’s hymns.
3. I know several people who don’t like Luther’s hymns.
4. I never heard Luther’s hymns but I probably won‘t like them.

:-D JK

The possibilities are endless... :bday:

I like Timothy's food polls, or something else fun, but overall do not have much of an opinion about them. In Jason's thread I could not vote. Sometimes, I can vote and tweak the option, but if I have to do a complete overhaul then I don't vote most of the time. I find that the options do not represent me sometimes in polls, just like in politics. :wink: I suppose this poll was not any different, because I do not hate them at all. I do think that there should always be a "none of the above" category, or maybe even a "not applicapable to me" category. I don't think that people who pick the options have an agenda necessarily, but are just representing views in a way that is common to them, or to us all, and hoping that people will either defend them, or tweak them, accordingly. The Lord bless all of you.
