The word "Reconciliation" means that at one time we were at odds with God and needed to be reconciled and brought back to a friendship with God. Paul wrote to the Colossians, "And you that were sometimes enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now has he reconciled in the body of his flesh through death, to present you as holy and unblameable and unreprovable in his sight" Colossians 1:21. This is something that has ALREADY happened in the Gospel. Before we were born Jesus had ALREADY reconciled us and the world unto God. This is why no one needs to be predestinated (Calvinism).
Read closely. You may never hear this again. "All things are of God, who has reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and has given unto us (Christians) the ministry of reconciliation. God was in Christ reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and has committed unto us (Christians) the word of reconciliation (which is the Gospel) 2 Corinthians 5:18-19.
HOW DID JESUS RECONCILE US AND THE WORLD UNTO GOD?
Jesus is God's new Adam and the representative of the human race. All that Jesus is and all that Jesus did was for our justification and our salvation.
When Jesus lived, we lived in him, our humanity was constituted in him. We have been baptized into Christ, Romans 6:3. The law says, "The soul that sins must die" Jesus died for us. We have been crucified with Christ, Galatians 2:20.
When Jesus died, we died with him. The whole human race has been put to death in Jesus Christ, Romans 6:6.
When Jesus was resurrected, we were resurrected with him, Romans 6:5. We are NOW new creations in Jesus Christ, 2 Corinthians 5:17.
When God accepted Jesus back into heaven, we were accepted in him. This is why Paul wrote, "And has raised us up together, and made us sit in heavenly places in Jesus Christ" Ephesians 2:6.
This salvation that God has provided for us in Jesus Christ is ours by faith alone.
Because of the reconciling work of Jesus Christ God now sees us as perfect and complete "In Christ". Colossians 2:10. No laws, works or religion needed.
