Just to see how nuts I am (I'm sure that I'm not alone)

How long have you lived where you are living now?
Do you own the place or are you renting?
How many times have you moved?
How many States have you lived in?
How many drastic moves (over a three hour drive away) have you done?

Some people live in the same state and area their whole lives. Haven't even been on the other side of town. Some have been coast to coast (and a few points in between)

Then for you outside the US... how about you? (You are going to have heavy explaining to do as geography isn't exactly a topic taught in schools for over 75 years)

Bought this old 87 acre farm in 1991. Spent the first 10 years completely remodeling the entire home. Everything was replaced except the frame and floors.

I've always lived in MN. My dad was an iron-worker in construction so we moved a few times during my youth.

I was born in western MN. Moved to NE MN at the age of 7. Moved back to western MN two years later. Moved back to NE MN two years after that. Mom put out an anchor at that point and I remained there until I graduated high school. From there I moved to my college dorm in central MN for one year. Moved back to NE MN and lived in five different places over the next 10 years or so before settling in my current home.

All of the moves from western to NE MN were about 4-hours away plus my final move to here.

Lived in the central valley now for almost 7 years.
Moved into my current home last year (first home I have owned).
Have moved (since becoming an adult) 12 times.
Lived in two states.
3 drastic moves.

Lived in my hometown in southeastern Wisconsin til I was 23 then moved to California (where I am now).
Never been outside of the country.

How long have you lived where you are living now? 28 years
Do you own the place or are you renting? own
How many times have you moved? Well, as a family we've moved 3 times. Before that I probably lived at 5 or so locations. All in Minnesota.
How many States have you lived in? Two. Minnesota and then Washington State
How many drastic moves (over a three hour drive away) have you done? One. 28 years ago my family and I moved from Minnesota (White Bear Lake) to a small town in Washington State. 36 hour drive approx.
I moved her after graduating from college at 37 and started a teaching career. My wife just retired as a librarian. I retire this July.

Do you own the place or are you renting?---own
How many times have you moved? as adult--- 14--- fills like more
How many States have you lived in?---2--- fills like more traveled for work sometimes in town/state a year

Here is an article explaining moving

Article

Every five years is actually fairly common. (Aside from apartment life it means home selling and buying is rather slow)

But on average 11-12 moves per lifetime.

Lived primarily in 3 different states, and because I've spent my life as both a homebuilder and a real estate broker have had more homes and more land and made more moves than I can even can recount. A home is nothing but a commodity to me consisting of 4 walls, a roof and the potential of turning a profit and moving to the next one. And I pretty much feel the same way about whatever ground/in whatever state I happen to own and be standing on and/or is my home. I have owned property in these states, simultaneously.

These are transient i.e. not fixed matters. Although our inclinations can lean to be sentimental about them.

When I started my life I had no idea what was ahead on the home/land/state front. Would have been quite content to stay where I started, in northern Mn. The moves however improved my life far more dramatically BETTER than my past comfort picture was, of staying in my birthplace.

I try to keep that same sight in mind each day, now. You never really know what God has up His Sleeve. I'm always open to "moving." And seem be be invariably drawn to "warmth" after being taken out of the N. Minn. icebox. brrrrr. Gives me the shivers just thinkin about it. smh reflexively.

John,

I took geography as a school subject up to Year 12, but I'm getting older now - not yet 75.

Take a look at this 2016 'Australian Curriculum in Queensland (my home state)':
Geography is still taught in Australia, but it is a choice of a learning area after year 10.

The Queensland State Government curriculum is:
The Australian Curriculum
Prep to Year 10
In 2014, Queensland schools are teaching the Australian Curriculum in:
  • English
  • mathematics
  • science
  • history
  • geography.
This Down Under country still teaches geography. I have some interesting discussions over geographical features with my children and grandchildren, all of whom have studied geography.

Regards,
Oz
