Mat 8:5 And when Jesus entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, imploring Him,
Mat 8:6 and saying, "Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, fearfully tormented."
Mat 8:7 Jesus *said to him, "I will come and heal him."
Mat 8:8 But the centurion said, "Lord, I am not worthy for You to come under my roof, but just say the word, and my servant will be healed.
Mat 8:9 "For I also am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to this one, 'Go!' and he goes, and to another, 'Come!' and he comes, and to my slave, 'Do this!' and he does {it.}"
Mat 8:10 Now when Jesus heard {this,} He marveled and said to those who were following, "Truly I say to you, I have not found such great faith with anyone in Israel.
Mat 8:11 "I say to you that many will come from east and west, and recline {at the table} with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven;
Mat 8:12 but the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
Mat 8:13 And Jesus said to the centurion, "Go; it shall be done for you as you have believed." And the servant was healed that {very} moment. NASB
After having seen this dramatically portrayed this year at "The Holy Land Experience" in Orlando, FL this has become a very interesting story to me! First because this Centurion is not a Jew! He is a Roman and he is receiving the favor of the LORD much more easily than did the Samaritan woman that Y'SHUA referred to as a "dog" (Mat 15). Second because why did Y'SHUA include verse 11 & 12 in this? I understand the "traditional" view on this but it is still as if HE were experiencing a moment of teaching Tourettes syndrome. I mean it is as if HE is simply plurting out something totally off topic. Thirdly and really is most important here is what the Centurion is teaching us about prayer and faith.
Dan 10:11 And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling.
Dan 10:12 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.
Dan 10:13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
This is the authority that the Centurion understood! Daniel is but a man and yet he commanded the attention, authority and response of Heaven! Isn't this also what Y'SHUA shows us in HIS life?
Gen 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Look at the areas of emphasis that I have added! YHVH restricted HIMself and all of the Heavenly host in this one verse! HE said that "ALL" authority on the earth is man's! If you believe as I do that satan had all authority on the earth from Gen 1:1 through Gen 1:3 at which point YHVH moves upon the earth, exercises HIS authority over satan and the earth and then gives that same authority to HIS crowning creation of the past six days of the re-creation of the earth, then you can easily understand why satan attacks man. He simply wants that authority back at all cost! He gets it but YHVH intervenes and makes ways for man to regain what the cankerworm, satan has stolen. HE then sends HIS Son to complete and destroy the works of satan and restore to their position of rightfull authorty all of mankind who would accept what HE has done!
The Centurion gets it! He may not have the "theology" of a scribe or Pharisee but he understands authority. He sees in Y'SHUA one who exercises authority over unseen forces. He sees in Y'SHUA something that he sees nowhere else in his time on the earth exercising over those same unseen forces. He sees in Y'SHUA war in the Heavenlies!
Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places].
In the Centurion we see a man who gets the overall picture that YHVH is trying to make us (all of mankind); to make YOU understand.
2Cr 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
2Cr 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare [are] not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
2Cr 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
Our war is not with each other. It is not with things generally seen. It is a battle for this "authority" that YHVH has given us.
Psa 8:4 What is man that You take thought of him, And the son of man that You care for him?
Psa 8:5 Yet You have made him a little lower than God, And You crown him with glory and majesty! NASB
This is one of those verses where the KJV is wrong! It is a mistranslation! It was translated this way for two reasons. One because no one could have as much authority on the earth as King James other than of course Y'SHUA or YHVH. Secondly because they felt the need to reconcile it with what they found in Heb 2:7 which is in actuallity only a paraphrase of Psalms 8.
With the authority that YHVH made mankind with we had dominion over satan, all demons and all of the host of Heaven on this earth. We were large and in charge! We gave this up through the deception of satan. We regain this in Y'SHUA because HE lives within us not because of us.
2Cr 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
We must become empty to receive HIM in. When, as the Prodigal son (Lk 15), we come to an end of our self we then return to our Heavenly FATHER and HE reinstates our authority or power over the Heavenly host.
Mat 28:18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
Mat 28:19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
Mat 28:20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." NASB
Here again is a verse where the KJV is wrong. They translate the Greek word "power" and it can be in many cases but this is one where in the context of how it is used that it should be "authority".
Lk 10:19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you. NASB
Again the KJV mistranslates (at least they tried to be consistent).
Because Y"SHUA was resurrected! Since HE is alive and now lives in us through the HOLY SPIRIT we can now exercise this same "authority" on the earth that the Centurion noticed. We can now command authority in the Heavenlies. We do not have to have someone lay hands on us. We do not have to lay hands on others unless they do not possess the understanding of the Centurion. When we understand who we are in CHRIST! When we understand WHO and/or WHAT is filling us then we become a new creature from what we were. YHVH is living in us to exercise HIS authorty on the earth; to exercise HIS dominion in the midst of satan's kingdom! What is really astounding is that HE is doing this in earthly vessels
2Ti 2:20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
You have been chosen to bring YHVH honor! To be a vessel used by HIM in this Heavenly war. Wounded soldiers, servants of the Centurion are counting on you to exercise the authority that you have been given in order to return them home safely to their FATHER!
Phil 2:7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, {and} being made in the likeness of men. NASB
Y'SHUA "emptied" HIMself of all divinity in order to come to the earth and just like you and me allow YHVH to manifest HIMself through HIM. HE came to give YHVH all HIS due glory on the earth. To glorify The FATHER! When HE was baptized even though HE was born of the HOLY SPIRIT, HE (the HOLY SPIRIT) now came to reside in Y'SHUA for the exercising of the authority of YHVH in the earth. This is why we too need to tary and wait for a separate infilling of the HOLY SPIRIT.
Act 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
This time the KJV gets it right, for the word translated "power" is dunamis where we get our word for dynamite. This is power to blast gaping holes into things! This is the power to blow open the gates of HEll ! This is the power to blow holes in the Heavenlies!
When you become a believer in Y'SHUA as CHRIST you gain the authority of YHVH to exercise dominion in the earth. When you receive a separate infilling of the HOLY SPIRIT you gain the power necessary to blow holes in the Heavenlies and to become witnesses of CHRIST everywhere, even in the Heavenlies! With new levels of authority or power comes different levels of resistance or demons. Thus with new levels comes new devils! Are you in the "little league"; the "minors" or the "pros"? At what level do you battle?
