Heb 9:

13For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:

14How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

False religion today fails to understand [ by decree of God] the value and effectiveness of the blood of Christ [ it produces results]. Many of them teach that Christ blood was shed for everybody in the world [without exceptions] and now its up to everyone in the world to make it applicable to themselves, in that one must accept it before it can do them any good; This is the most Christ dishonoring blasphemy that comes out of the evil speaking mouth of man; For this evil concept fits not the scriptural type and counterpart we have in the OT scriptures [ 1 cor 15:3].

The writer of Hebrews has been establishing facts on how the Son of God [ Jesus Christ] is so much better or superior to the OT economy of the prophets, priest and High priest and sacrifices, and that they all merely foreshadowed Him, for He was their substance and fulfillment. Now having already went over many things in the previous chapters of the epistle, He now comes to that of the blood of Jesus Christ, and its accomplishments over and above the accomplishment of that of the blood of bulls and goats vs 13

13For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:

What does this mean ? Well back in the OT, numbers 19, If an Israelite became ceremonial unclean by contact with the dead, there were steps too be taken in order to be restored and cleansed, and this involved the ashes of a female Heifer: And with her ashes this had had efficacy, for it prevailed in purifying the flesh, which was at best external and temporary, and of course would need to have been repeated if similar circumstances came up again, and of course the blood of bulls and goats on the day of atonement served the same temporary and external cleansing, in this case needing to be repeated annually by the High Priest for the children of Israel [ not the surrounding nations]. So the writer [ who I believe was Paul] using these illustrations of the effectual working of animal blood and ashes, then how much more, the blood of Christ, the spotless Lamb of God, the Son of God, will it not work effectually unto a inward, spiritual renewal and cleansing ? Titus 3:

5Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

6Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

Will not the blood of the God Man produce much more nobler effects for those whom it was shed, than what the blood of animals did for those whom it was shed ?

How much more the blood of Christ ! continued

The Lord Jesus Christ having offered Himself through the eternal Spirit, with His blood purges our [ the elect] conscience from dead works, unto the serving [ in spirit and truth] of the True and Living God.

aw pink says " Purge your conscience from dead works: This is one of the effects produced by Christ sacrifice, an effect which legal ordinances were incapable of securing. Because Christ sacrifice has expiated our sins, when the Spirit applies it's virtue to the heart, that is, when nit gives Faith to appropriate [ trust] our sense of guilt is removed, peace communicated, and we are able to approach God, not only without dread , but as joyous worshipers "

For it is by our conscious we are cognizance and accountable toward both God and Man acts 24:

16And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void to offence toward God, and toward men.

What are the dead works purged from our conscience is purged from ? Its not only certain fleshly and immoral conduct, but also man exalting, and God hating religion as well.. All religion apart from that which is revealed in the True Gospel of Gods discriminate Grace, is evil dead works and a stench in Gods nostrils.

For there is nothing in these typical sacrifices that makes the freewill of man or mans accepting anything offered to him by God, to cause these offerings to be effectual, the sacred work was done by God appointed men, the priest or High Priest, which anti typically is the Lord Jesus Christ for His people, His Israel of God..

Heb 9:24

24For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:

To appear in the presence of God for us !

Who are the us ? The seed of Abraham heb 2 16 , the many Sons heb 2 :10 ; the people he made reconciliation for heb 2 17; the children God hath given Him heb 2 13...

His appearance is that of a mediator or intercessor 1 tim 2 :

5For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

heb 7:

25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

1 jn 2:

John 2

1My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

His appearance and intercession is to God in order to make His sacrifice effectual to His church and for the application of His death benefits [ testament] unto them. Romans 8:

31What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

32He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

33Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

34Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.;

The Intercession of Christ availeth much, even more so than Elijah James 5:

16Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

17Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.

Now remember, John terms Jesus what in 1 jn 2 1 ? Jesus Christ the righteous ! and as such He is for them He died for, their advocate..what is an advocate ?

parakl?tos :

one who pleads another's cause with one, an intercessor

This is what the writer of Hebrews means with the word appear in our text heb 9 24..
He appears before God in our behalf [ those He died for] and pleads our cause by His blood..

And this is a effectual plea as stated in James 5..what is the word effectual mean ? its the greek word:

energe? which means:

to be operative, be at work, put forth power
a) to work for one, aid one
2) to effect

So Christ interceding on behalf of those He shed His blood for causes forth Gods power to be put forth, to be operative..to effect Gods eternal purpose..

Thats why the writer of Hebrews says this Heb 7:

25Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

Thats why those He died for comes to God and are saved to the uttermost, because He ever liveth to make intercession for them..

This making Intercession is in the present tense in the greek, meaning He is continually making Intercession for them, hence power is continually being released and effecting the conversion of Gods elect, until the end of time..

sbg57,

Many are given the free gift of forgiveness of their sins.

Few are given to see the vision of Jesus that Stephen saw as he was being stoned.

There is a vast multitude who have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Few are chosen to be sealed for the battle. Let us feed the lambs as well as the sheep.

joey:

Many are given the free gift of forgiveness of their sins.

I know, but not all, only those given to the Son by the Father..Jn 17:

2As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

3And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

sbg57,

What about the nations that God promised Abraham that they would be blessed through Abraham's seed?

They will come each new moon and each sabbath to worship the Lord Jesus and thereby to honor God, the Father.

This is a vast multitude that have been brought through suffering and have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Isa 54:1
:1 Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD. KJV
