Should we read the bible daily?

We should if we want to be if we want to be noble and Bereans...

Acts 17:10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.

Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

We should if we want to increase our faith

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

We should if we want to be perfect and throughly furnished

2 Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

We should if we want to understand Jesus and not be fools

Luke 24:25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:

Luke 24:26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?

Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

Those who claim to be spiritual and yet down play the importance of the scriptues deny the Spirit of God who points us to the scriptures.

Ephesians 6:17-18 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

1 Corinthians 14:37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.

Isaiah 34:16 "Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: ..."

There are some great inputs on those previous posts!!!

"Every day" was my answer but I have often found that it is more than that.

I have discovered that it is useful to have several "threads" of reading --- i.e. on different subjects or different themes as well as the more standard book-by-book study.

I usually have 3 or 4 threads going, often using different translations.

For example, right now I am reading:

  • (1) All of Jesus' parables from all 4 Gospels; analysing the differences and watching the different emphasis of each book

    (2) A study of all the divine names and titles in the Bible... using Herbert Lockyer's book by the same title to guide me. I find it fascinating and educational.

    (3) Death and the Afterlife... looking at all the references... using Dr. Robert Morey's book to guide me. It is more complicated to follow this way but it has helped me uncover verses I have never considered.

    (4) Recently finished the Gospel according to John and have moved back to the Gospel according to Matthew... the full sermon on the mount always gets me thinking. I am moving through that using the NLT. Matthew 5-7 "When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law."

    (5) Starting a quick and light read of Song of Songs

So I do jump around a bit but I always have something to look forward to when I pick up my Bible/s.

:) :)

Bible Reading

I read my Bible every day. I was taught from my earliest days to spend time in God's word. I am not talking 5 minutes here and five minutes there. I read from my Bible at least an hour aday, and then pray. Too many times Christians have this tendancy to read like microwave ovens, ten minutes and its over.

I read it daily, as a freshman in college I started reading genesis and eventhough i did miss some days, 6 months after graduation I finished the last of the 66 books; revelations. Now im starting to read the new testament.

Well, I have a bad habit of under/over-reading the Bible.
I'll go days without it, and then I'll just read it non-stop, which isn't a good was to memorize/comprehend much but that's just what I do.
I'm going to try to start reading bits of it daily, like on a one-year program or something.

Watch out for them there bible packin Christians, they like to draw it like a gun. Have you ever noticed how they seem to always have a stupid smile on their face. :rolling Just joking. Over the years I have spent many thousands of hours studying the bible.
