I couldn't watch the video with sound....... but I actually heard this, about how social security numbers are given, on Oprah several years back when I was visiting a neighbor.

My uncle worked for SS and he could tell me the first five digits of anyones SS# just by knowing their birth place and date.

What really stinks is that I will probably never even get my SS$ but I still have to walk around with this number that gives some scum the ability to steal my identity. Heck even if S still exists when I hit 60 something I don't plain on cashing into it since I already have plans to stick money into a retirement fund once I get around to getting a job...

I used to work in medical data entry. I got pretty good at identifying states and SSN's :o

Now, I'm a Christian with the fear of God indwelling me, I couldn't steal, but it always scared me a little bit that so many people were able to give out their SSN's to me so easily. There's no need to give out your SSN at any medical office (unless you have Medicare) don't give it out!

Did anyone else notice that the government wants to make the first 3 numbers in the SSN: 666?
