how do you all read it???

thanks

p.s.:i didnt read a bible whole my life...so thats why i am asking if there is a special way to read it...

Let's see.
You say you are afraid to go to church, yet a Pastor gave you a Bible.
Am I missing something here?

There are a number of methods, the one I hear most preferring is two chapters of the Old Testament and one of the New Testament each day resulting in a through reading in one year. My last read through was to read three chapters a day beginning in Genesis and going straight through for a year. My first journey through the scriptures was to read one chapter a day and reflecting, meditating, on the content for the day as I worked, went to church, traveled or what ever resulting in a great number of trjuths being learned but it took three years to read it through but some days took less than the time it took to eat m cerial in the morning.

No there's no special way to read the bible. Just pick it up and start reading. Here's something that might help. It's the Book of Matthew. Just click the video and follow along in your bible. Or you can kick back close your eyes and listen. You'll need a King James version bible to follow along. If you don't have one, follow this link. https://www.biblegateway.com/versions/New-King-James-Version-NKJV-Bible/#booklist This site has a large number bible translations.

Hope this helped. :)

What it all boils down to is that the Bible is a collection of several books and letters, all titled. (Genesis, Exodus, Matthew, 1st Peter, etc) You can pick any one of them and read it just like any other book. By picking one and reading it that way, you get the total picture of what is being said instead of just snippets taken out of context. I wouldn't start with Genesis as a lot of people try to do just because it's the first one in the Bible because after the first few chapters you will get to some very boring parts and probably lose interest. One of the Gospels (Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John, all four telling the story of Jesus) would be a good place to start. They are written from different perspectives, but primarily the same, so any of the four are fine to start with. After the Gospels are many letters written to the early church by people like Paul and others. They contain a lot of good information too. But whatever you read, read it like you would any book so you can follow the train of thought. That's the way the writers intended them to be read.

Why do you find it okay to go to a Pastor's house and ask for a Bible but are afraid of going to a church?
Why not? If I knew a mechanic and needed a car repair manual I can't imagine why it would be strange to go to him and ask if he might have one I could buy or borrow from him. Why would it be strange for someone do that with a pastor when they want a Bible?

Thank you for your reply.
You took a step in faith and trusted in Jesus as your Lord and Savior?
You took a step in faith and went to the Pastor and asked for a Bible?
You took a step in faith and came back on the forum?

You are ready.
Dear Lord, I pray now for our new friend found one, and I first thank you for bringing him here.
I pray you will help him and lead him in his next step in faith.
He needs a church, one that teaches your Word correctly.
He needs fellowship of other believers, he needs someone to help him in his walk with you.
I pray now that you will lead him to that church, and put the right people in his life so that he can grow in a relationship with you, and make friends that will walk with him.
Lord, I pray for his other needs, though I don't know them, but you do.
I pray you will bless him with his health and finances.
And may he rejoice everyday in the love that you give him.
I pray this in your holy name, Jesus, amen.

Hi again Found One. There are several Scriptures where our Heavenly Father wants us to learn about His Son Jesus. I have, over the years, instructed many folk who are in the same situation as you, to do this: Read and re-read the four Gospels to discover just Who Jesus is. To discover what He did, to discover how He wants you to live, and how to live it.

Start with Matthew, then Mark, Luke and John. Then go back and read them again, and again until you feel that you've got a pretty good understanding of Who Jesus is and perhaps how much He loves you. Each time you sit down to read the Bible, pray that the Holy Spirit would help you to understand, this is very important.

i might add as you read the 4 gospels each one of the writers give different details the book of John is all about For GOD SO LOVED.

Found one, could it possibly be that you are intimidated by people?
Being that you like the Psalms, make sure that you keep reading them. Praising the Lord is always good and prepares your heart to receive the rest. Plus when you are full of thankfulness it is harder for the devil to get you to grab ahold of thoughts that make you sad or depressed. King David, who wrote the Psalms, went through many emotions in that book. And i agree with the others. Start with Mark, or one of the gospels so that you can begin to learn who Jesus really is.
Blessings to you!! Keep moving forward! I for one (i'm sure the others are too) are proud of you for taking the important step of reaching out to the pastor for a Bible, and for another important step of coming back to this site. Bravo! One step closer to conquering the fear that is holding you captive. The more steps that you take the easier walking becomes.
