I just thought this might interest you

Over the past decade or so I have noticed that secular radio stations have purged Christmas music from their play list. They have done this gradually and methodically, so that it has gone without notice.

Remember how you used to hear Christmas hymns on secular stations? For a while, maybe a decade or so ago, the only Christmas hymns that you heard were instrumental.

I know that you think that you hear Christmas music. What you hear on secular stations is winter music. Or music about idols. Some of the themes of the seasonal music that you can hear on secular stations include:

Santa
Reindeer
Elves
Bells that Jingle
Silver bells
Snow
Snowflakes
Snowmen
Winter wonderlands
I miss you, I wish you were here.
I miss you, I wish I was there.
Presents
Presents that I want
Presents that I want to give
Pretty wrapping paper
Bows
Trees

Many secular music stations no longer play music about the birth of Jesus Christ. At best, they limit it to the last week before Christmas, or Christmas day.
This all seems to be coming in the same package that brought us the lack of nativity scenes in favor of Santa, reindeer. and snowmen. Drive around your neighborhood and compare the number of nativity scenes with the number of secular ones. Nothing quite like those who put their plastic Santa next to a manger, is there?

The package that told us that the retail outlets that make their fortunes on the sale of Christmas presents, will no longer wish us a "Merry Christmas", but "Happy Holidays."

This nation has told God and Christ that they are not welcome in the court system, the judicial system, the school system, or public buildings. Now in recent years they are not welcome in retail outlets or radio stations.

It really became noticable a couple of years ago, Gabby. No more 'silent night', 'little drummer boy', etc..
It's all just like you said, secular christmas songs.
Last christmas I was watching one of the kiddy programs, 'blues clues'; the narrater, steve, was telling how different religions celebrate christmas. He completely left out christianity, and this is an American program. :o
We wrestle not against flesh and blood...

Could you turn down the volume on your band, Lewis? It's deafening me.

Actually, here in Australia - where the seasons are reversed - the music group that I've led for several years give several outdoor (as well as indoor) concerts during the Christmas period. They are very special events known popularly as Carols by Candlelight. Admittedly, we do a 'mix' of secular and Christian carols but the emphasis is very much on the birth of Christ.

There are moves afoot to ban ALL such outdoor displays of Christianity (whether of a Christmas nature or not) at public venues. Public nativity scenes are probably also destined for the 'ban' list, although I don't know what anyone could do to prevent one from placing such a display outside their own home as many do ...along with Santa, Rudolph, etc. of course.

The idea that anyone would want to 'ban' Christmas because of its 'Christian theme' should stir us all into action. We don't need to 'accept' anything we don't want to.

They could have deep sixed 'The Little Drummer Boy' years ago and I wouldn't have had a problem with it...gah, I hate that song! :-D

What do you expect, I guess. Any mention of 'Jesus' in our society causes a complete stir about 'church and state' or 'enforcing of religion'. The 4th amendment has been so turned around it isn't even funny...and I'm Canadian! :P

Got any downloads? It would be interesting to hear you guys in action.
What types of music do you play, or what is your main style of music?
Australia sounds like it's following suit with America; I sure hope theres more of a public outcry than there is here.

There is a radio station 99.5 and it plays constant Christmas music each year from Thanksgiving to New Years day 24/7. Ninty nine hours of Christmas music they say. I never added up the hours. But it's awesome to listen to it each year, they play it all, from old Christmas hymns, to current country Christmas songs, and of course going back to the 12 LP's Elvis made alone on Christmas music. I love the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, they play here live every year. It's orchestra but mixed with classical playing of heavy metal of many Christmas classics. It's awesome, and they put on a great show. Wonderful for the entire family, if you never seen them live check them out, you won't regret it. I found a site for them.. Check this out...

With 85% of the nation being Christian, I think you are misreading this. The nation is not pushing God ut of anything (as if Christians believe that God can be pushed out of something).

What you are seeing is that Americans are trying to be more tolerant and friendly to other faiths than their own. They are going for a broader message of peace on earth and goodwill towards men rather than a message that applies to only one religion.

The thing about this is that it is the best of all worlds. You can enjoy the holiday spirit with others not of your religion and you can celibrate it as the birth of Jesus with your church/family.

I once posted in a forum and mentioned my faith in God and my Saviour, Jesus Christ and received an email telling me not to "talk religion" there. I wrote and told them I wouldn't go where my God isn't welcome. Another forum called me a bigot because I said that homosexuality is a sin. America is telling God that He is no longer welcome, and that they will call upon Him for His help if they need it. Otherwise, they tell Him to stay out of their lives and let them run things the way they want. That is, those that even acknowledge that He exists. One day as they stand before Him at the Great White Throne Judgement, they will wish they had not rejected Him.
