read passages such as Luke 17:29 "But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all."

It was never God's intention for anything but humans to be filled with the Spirit and the peace of Jesus Christ. God so loved the Earth and wanted to save us that he sacrificed His only begotten son. I know God is love and produces a love that we cannot comprehend. It was never God's intention to have anyone go anywhere but Heaven and paradise. I understand this. But when I read passages like the above, I get scared because I know it is the devil who brings destruction and Hell, not God. But why would brimstone and fire come from Heaven, which is all peace and love?

This is a favorite passage of mine because it shows Abraham bartering with the Lord...... I think you really need to get some studying materials and delve into the word of God. The Lord rained down brimstone on Sodom and Gamorrah for a reason they did evil in the site of the lord and cries had gone up to God from the evil that was happening. Though God is full of love and mercy and what seems to me to be endless patience He is also a holy God and a righteous one. Take some advice, get some commentaries Tynedale is good, study the word of God your understanding of Him seems very limited.
