in the next 2.5 billion years the sun will start growing after its depleated its full, and will grow in a nova star, actually swallowing the earth

Heck, I'm gonna max-out my credit cards!

First, that doesn't make any sense. Our sun is a Yellow star. Yellow stars don't super-nova, they just turn in to black dwarfs and burn out (Scientifically speaking) But practically speaking, star theory is sketchy at best because of the distance between stars is to great to effectively measure the life-span of a star. Just a scientific note. 8-)

Hey now. He thought he was being really wise and you just come in with something intelligent to say and tear his carpet out from under him? Mean, mean, mean. :-D

well w/e, btw if they do get into dwarf stars, earth will end up like pluton... so its kinda the same :S

Yeah you cant exaclty measure the life-span, but the thing is, they have a life-span. :P

Just to clarify a bit.

The sun will not nova or supernova (two distinctly different things).

It will grow into a red giant, with a diameter a bit larger than the earth's current orbit. We may or may not be swallowed, as the earth's orbit may be pushed out as it slowly expands. Either way, ain't gonna be fun.

After a while, the outer layers of the sun will peal off into a planetary nebula...one of astronomy's most beautiful sites.

Then the sun will shrink into a white dwark at the center of the nebula.

This will happen in about 4-5 billion years.

However, long before that happens the Andromeda galaxy will collide with our galaxy in about three billions years.

That car wreck may spell earlier doom, although some simulations say it may not fundamentally affect our solar system.

Hmmm, let's review. When God said, "Let there be light", there was light. Same with the division of night and day, land and sea, etc., etc.

I'm going to take a step of faith and say that the earth will be destroyed when God says, "Let the earth be destroyed".

yeah a red giant, i keep confusing novas and red giants :S...

well yeah it wont be fun... but i can asure all life on earth will be destroyed... we'll prolly be travelling at speed of light by then or dunno conolize other planets, we have a long time of life...

we'll so you say that God will shield the earth of the sun? We'll if he havnt been in problems such as hunger or wars, i dont think he'll stick around at armaggeddon... the answer is not always faith, its just an escape of the answer.
