I start college soon, and....

I'm starting college in, well, 11 days, at my local technical college, gathering transferable credits and will then go on to North Central University to start the Worship Arts program to be a Music Pastor. I will honestly admit that I'm a bit nervous, but that's pretty normal I guess. Mostly, however, I'm excited! I'm finally getting my life started, and thanks be to God that I have a college fund that is paying for a large portion of it as well! The first 2 to 2 1/2 years will be completely paid for, which leaves me time to save up extra money, apply for scholarships and financial aid, etc. to pay for the rest of it all. I registered for my classes today and bought my books for this semester, got my parking permit and locker rented and everything else taken care of... *deep breath* *sigh* so now it's just waiting for it to start.
But I'm still a little nervous...

Your nerves will settle down soon enough. You will love it. How can you not love courses in music and ministry? You will make some very good friends and do well, for sure :thumb . :yes

God Bless.

Thanks! And I know, I love it so much. It was hard for me though, because I know it's what God has called me to but my dad calls it a waste of time, telling me I need to do something more "worthwhile."
But, oh well. It happens, right?

Having the talent of Music in any avenue is a blessing. My dad, born in 1918 died 1968, was a musician aside from his day job of being a cutom tailor. He played the violin as his major instrument, but also played many other instruments. Music was his love but it didn't interfere with his ability to make a living. He even used it to make extra money. I have a friend who is an art teacher, has a masters in art and art history. He's been an art teacher for 30 years and is a musician on the side. He's been a musician all of his life, as was my dad. When music doesn't do it for a full time job, there should always be another thing you can use. Your love of Ministry and music are a fine combination and both can be opportunities for teaching. Also maybe giving some private lessons in a local music store or in someones home might bring you some extra money for future college courses, aye? If not, then surely there will be other opportunities.

Musical ability is a gift from God. Being a musician is a blessing. As is being a minister. Being a teacher is a blessing. Your college years will serve you well and the Lord will show you where you can blossom even more in whatever it is the Lord leads you toward doing in your life. Follow your heart, but never lose sight of your God given knowledge and wisdom to discern other avenues that would come in handy for you down the road also.

Show your dad you are a dedicated student and do well in your studies. Stay away from wrong influence and you'll do just fine. Report good news to your parents as to what is going on with your studies and your class activities and hopefully your dad will come around soon enough.

God Bless you.

Well of course. :)

And yes, I have been hearing that advice quite frequently, to show that I am diligent in my studies.
The Bible does even state, to show yourself a good steward, a worksman approved...

But music is my passion, my calling, and so I am going to follow it with everything I've got. :)

Just make sure that you stick to your classes, don't drop out, and study a week ahead of schedule. Lost time is something that can not be made up.

Good advice. When I went to college for a little bit I had no direction where I was going or what I was going to do. Over time I felt I was getting nowhere and my heart was not in it. You have a good thing going for you as you are getting well prepared and have figured out where you are headed and what you need to do to finish. So I believe you will be just fine.

Students of music learn craftsmanship as they study how details are put together painstakingly and what constitutes good, as opposed to mediocre, work. These standards, when applied to a student's own work, demand a new level of excellence and require students to stretch their inner resources.
