I think Tom Cruise has a point!

I use to think that Mr. Cruise was as dumb as a stick but the more I listen to what he has to say the more convincing his arguement becomes. There is very little out there that is as mysterious as space and I think we all know that the Bible says, "God works in mysterious ways."

God working....

"God works in mysterious ways."

Robin,
I'm afraid that I can't find this scripture in the bible. Can you point me toward it?

Frank

OK, I'm being sarcastic. Sorry. Forgive me..

Tom Cruise is a scientologist. I don't know if one could be spiritually dumber than to follow such a farce.

Well I will have to say to being "loving Christians" you sure do respond to someone in harsh terms. I catch no hint of kindness or mercy that you so easily speak of but show none. I was simply searching for honest thoughts and got nothing but backlash. Congrats in representing your faith well.

Mr. Cruise is sorely decieved in his religous beliefs. Don't let yourself be led astray by his heretical new age religion.

... and what "argument" does he put forward that you find so convincing?

I don't like Tom Cruise and his religion of Scientology is false. So what could he have a point about? If it is about Scientology, I don't want to post in this thread anymore. :-D

Robin Yountblood,

It is obvious you have given Scientology some thought. What arguments of Tom Cruises on Scientology make the religion so convincing? What about Scientology is better then the saving grace of God? As far as I understand it Scientology is another works based religion. That being the case my next question would have to be “How do you know you have done enough work for God?â€Â

The beauty of the Gospel message is that it talks about God becoming flesh and eventually sacrificing himself on the cross for humanities sins. Now why is that so important to me…well I know from Scripture (and observation of the world around me) that everyone is a sinner. Scripture also teaches me that everyone was born into sin after Adam and Eve’s sin in the Garden of Eden (Often entitled “The Fallâ€Â). I also know form Scripture that sin separates us from God and the penalty of sin is death. The gospel informs me that Jesus died to pay the price of sin and by repenting of my sin and accepting Jesus Christ I am “made right†before God! That means the penalty of sin has been paid for in full and I now can have a personal relationship with God! I am also aware, thanks to Scripture, that I now have the Holy Spirit dwelling within me…that reality also means I am now enabled by God to overcome my sin and live a more pleasing life to God. I know I am by no means perfect…for glorification (being made perfect without sin) only comes until after death. I know, thanks to Scripture, that after I die I will be in the presence of God for all eternity! Such a reality is quite warming to me!

Based on the truths of the gospel I don’t see the value in Scientology. I don’t see how believing in a faith that requires works can take the place of the saving grace of Jesus Christ. I know that I am not perfect and I am a sinner. I also know that in order to be with God for all eternity I have to be righteous. Without Jesus Christ I am unrighteous. With Jesus Christ I am made righteous by his righteousness.

So please answer the questions I have posed and consider what I have said about the Gospel…and also consider reading the gospels for yourself (The first four books of the New Testament in case you are not aware of that). If you would like to know more about the gospel and the possibility of being “made rightââ¬Â before God then please PM me or any other moderator or Administrator on this site.

Dude, scientology says that unhappy thoughts are caused by a bunch of murdered space aliens from 75 million years ago.

It says that unhappy thoughts are caused by murdered space aliens.

Murdered.
Space.
Aliens.

Blown up by an intergalactic warlord called Xenu.

And if the patent absurdity of that isn't a deal breaker, there's the fact that it costs half a mil to become a "real" Scientologist.

Tom Cruise is a loon, because his religious handlers broke his head. Scientology is bad mojo.

what arguements do i have?

well why dont we take a look at a few things. Scientology considers a belief in God. That belief is also personal. This is revealed through each individual (more conscious, spiritually aware).

Seems that many claims have been made that show what scientology has accomplished. It has saved people from addictions, depression, learning dissabilities, cancer, etc. So what would be sooo bad about that? How is that not good...seems to me that is a blessing.

They dedicate themselves to provide counseling/rehab programs. again i say, that sounds good to me. there are alot of people who need help. seems like they would be getting that here.

Scientology means the "study of knowledge or truth." So if it means that then it seems hard to walk away from that. ya know?

From that, seems it is something to be a part of. Scientology seeks to improve the condition of man, woman. So what is wrong with that?

Now I do NOT understand scientology to be a works based religion. I do not know where that came from at all. So it would be hard to answer the question about works because again, that doesnt fit here with scientology. Besides, I wouldnt focus on works for a reward but for doing them for the sake of doing them.

Nocturnal...your crazy. You didnt even bother to post about my question but instead you just went off telling your life story on beliefs and what things mean to you that have NO basis on what I asked first. Right???

The other thing about all this stuff that you say is you keep quoting your beliefs, what things mean to you, and you keep saying scripture says but the funny thing is.....I dont see any verses or scripture there. So how could i possibly believe what you have to say. Really....just sit back and think for a minute. Would you believe something from someone unless they backed it up. I did that because I have prooven research.

I know the first four books to by the way...matthew, mark, luke, and john. If you would like to know more about scientology then you can get up with me later.

It is not just Tom's religion. He just believes in it and follows it. Is this God stuff your religion? No. It doesnt belong to you.

Thessalonian is the only person that seems to be remotely understanding and peacful about this conversation. As a moderator Nocturnal...you should take a few notes. Anywho...thanks for the interest everyone

Yes, maybe we should take a few lessons from you about kindness. (heavy sarcasm)

Saying that scientology is a false religion is not unkind, it is the truth. The reason no one has posted any scripture because there just isn't any. I read about Scientology and it has very little to do with The Bible.

Can any of those claims be substantiated?

That does sound good but Scientology involves more then just that.

That’s true, however; that is not all Scientology claims.

Ok, many religions make that claim…what makes their way better?

You make some good points, however I still don’t see how what Scientology promises is better then what the Bible says.

Interesting, I did not see any questions in your original post. As for sharing my belief, what is wrong with that? Also keep in mind this is a Christian forum so it is not unusual for someone to proclaim the gospel…in fact it should be expected.

Good point, I will keep that in mind next time I proclaim the gospel to someone. Part of my reason for not quoting Scripture is in the interest of time and space. Now if someone wants to see the specific Scripture that addresses the things I am saying I am more then happy to show them. In any event you have given me something to think about. I will take note and try to do that in the future.

That’s true; I never said it was his religion. I simply made reference to him because you mentioned him and his “arguments†for Scientology.

Interesting you say that. I did not belittle Scientology or even make fun of it. What I did do, however; is proclaim my beliefs. I simply shared my faith with you. I did not coerce you at all. So what did I say offended you….how I said it or the message itself? If I could have addressed my faith better then I will gladly work on delivering it better. Now if you have a problem with the message itself well I’m sorry I cannot help that. I’m not going to soften up the message to make someone comfortable. Truth is truth and I will not alternate that for comfort. It would be far more unloving of me if I lied to you in order to make you feel good.

I really should have locked or deleted this thread, but I did the next best thing by moving it here. This had nothing to do with Christian Apologetics or Theology.

Where is your proof?

I have not seen your proof... nor your research... nor your proven research. So why would anyone believe a word you are saying?

:)

Well....

If it is true that we are a genetic breed thanks to extraterrestrials than Scientology is True!

There have been MANY documented cases of alien abductions and this is where the "foundation" of Scientology lies....

On the premise of the "gods" being reptilian extradimensional beings.....

Hopefully they are wrong....

But the fact that you have to pay HUGE amounts of money to be "tested" by a scientology technician makes one a bit weary....

You do realize that Scientology was founded by a SCIENCE FICTION author who was quoted as saying " I can make money writing stories, but to make real money I need to start my own religion."

Scientology is something that most people do because they see a lot of celebs supporting it.... it is a "safe" religion that wont offend athiests.

Oh?

Cool. I'm going to invent my own religion. It will be called "The Truth, No Really, I'm Totally Serious." With a title like that, how could it possibly be wrong? It will only have one tenet. You can tell this is a good religion because it has so few tenets! The one tenet will be: Send me lots and lots of money. By doing so, you will become very happy. See? My religion is about making people happy! That makes it super-special-wonderful!

Don't delay, act now! Operators are standing by. Well, okay, they're waiting in the backs of non-descript vans with the motors running, but the point is that you should take positive steps towards buying your happiness today.
