Immunizing infants

I have no children, but someday my wife and I plan on having children.

I have always assumed until the past few years that immunizing infants was a no-brainer, but lately I have read some literature that states that doing such is doing more harm than good.

These people claim that we are putting poison in our baby's body and there are documented cases where it actually leads to thousands of deaths each year in the USA.

They also say that the drug companies that put forth these shots know them to be bad, yet they invested so much money in them that they still put them out to get $ $ $.

Also, what about public schools and immunization records? Is there any way to get kids in public schools with no shot records due to religious beliefs?

What do you all think?

Where do you stand on this issue?

Do you have any literature or webpages that I can review?

I am a concerned future parent searching out the best situation for my future loved ones.

I was like you before my kids were born. I wasn't going to get their immunizations. But I'm glad I did.

Think about all that's going on in the world today. With this hurricane alone, disease will surface. It COULD be a disease that your child could have been protected against had the of had their immunizations.

The risk of your child having a reaction or problem from the shot is so low, and I think that the pros of having immunizations really outweigh the cons.

I think a lot of idiots can write books.

We have groups like the Center for Disease Control as well as private groups that would blow the whistle on drug companies if they were doing something wrong.

The fact is, they work. There will always be a few instances were the shots possibly go wrong. Tens of thousands of people are saved every year because of their seat belts, although there will be a handful of people that will die because they were wearing their seatbelt.

It's really sad that a few whackos out there encourage parents to do what is the equivalent of not buckling in their children.

umm, most public schools require the immunizations, to protect the otehr kids and the facutly.

just as working in a nursing facility usually requires a PPD test, and a few others, to make sure u dont ahve anythign that is bad.

Umm, immunizatiosn save mroe than they kill. for sure.

I think there are dangers on both paths.

On one hand, there are the dangers that you have cited and on the other hand there are dangers of the diseases themselves. One must way up the dangers and based on their experiences, make a decision. Then trust God with that decision and that he will bless it.

Either way...there are risks! There are risks if you don't immunise and risks if you do. Personally, I choose to take the risk of immunising over not immunising based on the experiences of having seen first hand the devasting effects of diseases. Others, however, choose to take the risk of not immunisting having seen the effects of immunisation.

I say, whatever you choose, put your faith in God and he will bless whatever it is you put your hand too.

I honestly think your an idiot if you don't get immunized.
The "studies" that say that they are dangerous are extremely questionable. There used to be problems with mercury in the immunizations, but now that problem has been eliminated. The autism connection has never been proven in the least, maybe it is a coincidence that the signs show up at about the same time that the immunizations are given and they will show up at the same time if the immunizations are not given.
To not have you kids immunized is dangerous. There are too many illnesses that are extremely preventable, but if people don't get immunized they might get it and then spread it to others as well who are not immunized therefore starting an epidemic.

The people who don't get things like tetanus shots are taking a chance that isn't wise. Tetanus can be contracted from something as small as a splinter. Then you might not notice it, then your body contracts with such force that you can't breath andd then die. Or get a shot and completely prevent it...

The only problem I do see is if the person has alergies to the immunizations, such as people who are allergic to eggs can't have flu shots. Or if you are immunocomprimised and can't take certain "live" vaccines.

I'm with Peace4all. I'm a nursing student and have to get these tests, but I'm glad. People carry too many bacteria that are transfered too easily so if I'm tested and they find it early or if they can prevent it I don't spread it to others and I can be treated before it is a problem. I would rather not have hepatitis B or tuberculosis.

When i first applied, the liek 3rd question they asked me, was "will you allow yourslef to be tested for tuberculosis" and they explained it to me.

THe last thing I want to have to think about, is how its my fault that a bunch of senior citizens died.

Sure, there is always the risk of something bad goign wrong. Needle too far, wrong stuff inside, allergic reaction.

But then again, people are prone to almost anything.

At least with the TB test the needles are only 1/2 to 1/4 of an inch long so the worst that could happen is a bruise.

But the other thing is that if the nurse does the injection in the arm or the side of the leg, there really isn't anything to hit except bone which just hurts. (Don't get one in the butt, you run the risk of hitting the cyatic nerve sp? or major arteries :o ) That is one of the reasons they inject infants in the side of the leg (vastus lateralus).

I do agree that stupid nurses and doctors could do damage, but I would say that you take a much higher risk taking your children or yourselves in a car on a highway.
