Probably the reason it scares ordinary people is that so much is often assumed, and we are almost always led only partially into any sort of "different" thing, and then broadsided with a comment such as, "Now, install the such-and-such".... and then the instructor breezes right along as though it was a "given" that everyone and his dog knows how to do that. (And this can be the example with just about ANYTHING)

Microsoft, itself, is notorious for this kind of partial instruction.

Taylor, I came up with a brilliant idea. I paid a computer shop $9.50 to install Ubuntu Linux on a thumb drive (thumb drive included in the price). I'll pick it up on Wednesday and try it on my Win 7 desktop that has been upgraded to Windows 10.

I'm not promoting that often but it is the system I use to demonstrate the system to other folks. It costs the price of the Thumb Drive and some are not willing to spend the price of the device.

On the EFI & UEFI systems, it is difficult to install or to boot from Live CDs. I, as a Rule Of Thumb turn off Fast Boot in Windows as well as in the EFI or UEFI Syustems. In my HP I turn the machine on and press the ESC Button one a second or more until I see it entering Setup. On My T400 ThinkPad I turn it on and press the Blue ThinkPad Button until I see Setup.

I find that F2, F11, and sometimes F12 on Boot will take you either a menu or to Setup on most other machines. I, with the short term memory issues from this foolish disease, have found the Web the great place to find any answers when these four buttons will not answer the question and thus far those have been the answer.

With Ubuntu on a Stick you possess the perfect Education and the perfect Tool to install the system, dual or single Boot with minamal effort.

Oh, on eBay I find unbranded Sticks for as little as ten dollars for five with free shipping from Chine, My last five are USB3.

Now, see? To a dummy like me, that suggests you are going to be able to sit down at your machine... with it turned off... plug in the stick.... turn on the computer... and then be oprating in Unix from that moment on, until you turn off the computer, and remove the thumb drive.

But, I KNOW from experience that there MUST be a lot more to it.

LOL! Reba gave me a Coffee Break for thirty days but I had it coming and at the end I was back, to remain. Anyway, I deserved the break and I can't remain mad any way. But it is good to see you.

There is a lot of fighting on C.C., but I kind of enjoy a lot of it. (SOME of it is stupid and unending) It seems you really get to know people a lot more accurately when they are not overly censored.

Sounds great, but "No Thanks." I have had far too many failed attempts at that sort of thing. I will pay my bucks, and stick with MS. Besides, I have never found anything as fantastic as WORD. It is truly the one thing MS did right. Especially 2016.

And I do, so, prefer Libre Office and Google. MS office works great in all Nix Apps when run under Wine or CrossOver. I seldom use Windoze Ten and have completely dumped it completely on this T400 ThinkPad with only a 160 harddrive. Prefernce driven by virus, trojan, worms and root kits, such as the one that comes on 10, preinstalled by MS with the aide of the National Security people.
