Instruments?

Awww, that really sucks... Parents like that are annoying. =/ I remember my parents wouldn't let me listen to even contemporary Christian for a long time. I'm 18 now, so it's been awhile since they controled what I listen to, but still... They don't like me to listen to a lot of the stuff I do, but just cuz the song talks about wanting to give up and how life sucks doesn't mean I'm gonna think the same way. It's true though... there are times we feel like giving up and like life sucks.

Anyway, I'm starting to go off-topic. >.< Sorry...

Well, I hope they change their mind soon. My dad is a pastor and he used to play the drums. Music is from God. He's the one who created it and made us able to perform it etc. The reason people hate drums and electric guitars and all is cuz they're associated with the drug-using bands and gansta rappers and all. -.- It really sucks... I like rock and heavy metal mostly cuz of the way it sounds. It's wild and loud and I just really like that.

Heh i play bass and guitar...

And i know about the "Your music is evil" thing...

Last week i was listening (loudly) to The Sex Pistols' "Anarchy in the Uk".. and my mom came in and told me to turn it down... and then the first line...

"I am an antichrist, i am an anarchist.. blah blah blah" and i had to listen to a 1 hour lecture of how i shouldnt screw my mind with "evil" or "rubbish" music...

:S

Hey guys, I probably sound like mama's boy, but as Christians you should stay away from abrasive music. I'm not talking about good music, I'm talking about music that is depressing or angry.

It has nothing to do with it being contemporary. Remember, your parents also had a tough time convincing their parents that the Beatles weren't devils. However, "I wanna hold your hand" is far different from the Sex Pistols' "I am an antichrist."

Be honest, why do you listen to music? Because you like it. If you try to use the old excuse, "i listen to the music, not the lyrics", you're not being honest, and you're a pretty lousy Christian.

I'm sorry, but I can't see Paul listening to some tripped out Emo singer whining about how his life is as rotten as the booze he threw up and how he wants to slit his wrist.

Listen, I know this sounds like the whole WWJD approach. Well, guess what, it is. You shouldn't be acting like teenagers, you should be acting like Christ.

Now, if you really like heavy music, there are Christian bands that do it. Look for Pacs 217 or Kutless.

Now that you probably either hate me or have thrown a full wine bottle at your screen, I wish you all the best.

hay I have a yamaha guitar but I don't rally no how to use it LOL haha

Lol..

Well different times...

And hell i listen to the lyrics... the music too tho... i mean if it has good lyrics but a complete shit musically (The Casualites for example).. i wont listen to them...

Btw keep in mind that Christ did stuff kinda like some bands preach about anarchy etc... Jews on those times must have think: better not to listen to that guy, he wants to fuck the system... better be gay as hell and kill him..

And anger.. well in some songs i dont mind.. like anti bush stuff.. i mean most punk bands in those times (not the mtv bands heh) were angry and just spilled their anger about stuff.. musically...

Only christian band i listen to is Mxpx... well maybe not to your definition of christians.. since they drink, have tattoos, etc.

How old are you anyway? BTW in the beatles times.. the sex pistols were around.. 70s i think.. or late 60s dun remember...

I dont like depressive shit like emo... whiny little bastards... i thing is singing about changing the system, etc.. than whining about your girlfriend dump you or how "hard" is it when your parents dont understand u... bleh..

I was using those examples because
one: the Beatles are a diiferent time and show the contrast in music between the last fifty years of innovation and the previous five hundred years and beyond.

Second: Sex pistols were used in a previous post

Finally, I am a Christian. I am sixteen years old. Though, by the way I write, you may not belive me, it's true. Your post is honest but philosophically flawed.

At no point in the New Testament did Jesus ever suggest to rebel against the government. As Christians, Christ has called us to change the system changing ourselves and those around us. Though your bands my make you think and you may agree with their ideas, it doesn't really matter in the end what they say.

Believe what you will, but the music that you listen to does indeed influence
your mind. Christ called us to have minds like the Father. If the music you listen to causes you to take your mind off the glory of the Father, then you shouldn't listen to it.

Like I said, there are Christians bands that sound good, and really do have a lot more to say about God than "I love Jesus" fifteen thousand times over the course of five minutes.

Don't just go for what's new and cool, or what just gets to you at the moment. The best music is the stuff that sticks with you.

In my own, personal opinion, God made music to bring glory to himself in a creative way. God Never intended music to be sick and twisted speeches of sex, drugs, and...well that's pretty much it...

Listen, I understand were you are coming from, even though I really am very disattatched to folks my own age. But you can't just take a two dimensional look at things. When you look at it from all angles, you can learn to appreciate all music that has depth and meaning. Even the old stuff.

I'll also advise you on this. If you don't like bush that's fine. But don't let politics get caught up in your faith.

Seriously though, lots of love. I hope you can learn from what I've said and I enjoyed your views as well.

and as usual...*just read the post-script*

I play Guitar in my youth group band (one-eighty band) and it is by far my favorite instrument; mainly because I can feel really close to God while i'm playing. Other than that I play clarinet, sax, piano, bass, and Kazoo (jk).

I've played guitar, keybord(piano I guess), drums..I think that's it.

I've been playing piano 8 years, and guitar/bass for a year. 8-)
I also play a little drums, although i don't have a kit.

I have played piano for about 9 years. I also am teaching my self to play the guitar.
But I really want to learn how to play the keytar. :D

Haha, I would love to learn how to play the keytar. It seems like such a fun instrument.

Ya it would be a tun of fun. But where on earth do you find one that doesn't burn a hole in your pocket?

Try looking for one on Ebay, or even try your local music store. PM me if you find one for a decent price. :)

Do any of Ya'll play and instruments? I play piano and alittle guitar. :) Just Wondering... 8)
I'm learning accoustic guitar right now... Once I've learned that I'm gonna get an electric and learn all the little tricks you can do w/ that, heh heh. Then I'm gonna learn piano (hey it sounds awesome when you get some loud piano in a metal song), plus I can tune my guitars to it heehee. I'm hopefully gonna be in a band once I learn guitar well enough, though that will be a long time away....
