I'm right there with Blake because I know I have idols and I try not to and that is the key: we try to do it in our own power. When God has said all along that in our weakness, He is strong. Instead of fighting and struggling in our will power, we yield and submit to God and in Him we overcome, after all Jesus is the overcomer and He lives in us. Amen! :)
Examine how your idolatry has affected the kind of person you are. The power of God in you is the desire by the Holy Spirit to not hurt yourself and other people by what you do.

If what controls you is moving you away from the qualities of the Holy Spirit, then that control has to end. And you'll see that what is controlling you is old man sin nature. But Paul reminds us that we aren't 'married' to old man sin nature anymore because he died with Jesus on the cross (marriage ends with the death of one of the parties). That truth, that word, arouses faith in us to believe that we are now free to obey the voice of new husband Jesus Christ and do what he wants and be controlled by him.

I needed that today. Satan does his best to make me feel like I'm fallen despite all the good things I see the Lord doing in my life.
That's his job to rob you of the abundance of God.

I do care. Sometimes the flesh is weaker than at other times, sometimes I have great endurance... but I still fight with it all the time it seems like. And I feel like it has the victory more than I do. I often wonder if it's going to take me to hell if I die before winning.
Not if you die fighting. Even we humans know to honor every fallen soldier who died trying.

I wish that I had never become accustomed to it. I wish this chain could be broken and I struggle to understand why it can't be lifted from me.
It's not going to be lifted from you. You're going to learn to hate it so much you'll cast it aside. God, your Father is coaching and teaching and cheering you on, encouraging you to use effectively all that he's given you and taught you by his Holy Spirit to do that. But don't be surprised if he goes over and punches the opposing team's coach in the face.

".......but I still fight with it all the time it seems like. And I feel like it has the victory more than I do."
You may have just identified the problem. It's not "your" fight, but only yours, to do as God leads you.
2 Chronicles 20:15

I've never been able to see it laid out the way you just did. Your words had an anointing in them that breathed life into dry bones, and I know that God is still leading me, and He is surely leading you. I'd give you a bear hug if I could brother Jethro.

Whoa! Waaaaaaay to much information! :lol

I'm just expressing that when sin is happening inwardly, even with God in mind, sanctification happens inwardly.

The outward man is perishing, and the inward man is being renewed. And the flesh lusteth after the spirit, and vice versa, 'cos their contrary one to the other.

Thus even when persisting in sin, even if it be thrice monthly or thrice daily, with sanctification the inward parts will be hurt because of a new heart. The sins fade, and the Spirit waxes powerful within.

...which includes your God given biological desire to procreate. It's not evil to have sexual desire.

But according to Yeshua, heart-felt lust is adultery.

I've received your bear hug if only in Spirit for now. Your joy, your encouragement are my joy and encouragement today.

God bless.

We all intentionally sin. We do it right here on this forum when we type some of the posts I have seen just about all of us retaliate with.

(I said, "just about", so that whoever may be reading this can feel justified in saying they are one of the few who has never done that.)

Thank you for thinking of us.

Many Christians believers are in bondage to sin.

31 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. 32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33 “But we are descendants of Abraham,” they said. “We have never been slaves to anyone. What do you mean, ‘You will be set free’?” 34 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. 35 A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free. John 8:31-36 NLT
